New York City has long been known for two things: being expensive and its pizza. Now, it's known for its expensive pizza.
The five boroughs are officially home to the priciest pizza in the nation, according to new research from Clever Real Estate.
A large cheese pizza in the Big Apple will cost you $28.60 on average, according to the research. That's nearly double what a plain pie will run you in Richmond, Virginia, the home of the country's cheapest pizza, where the average pie costs $14.75.
The average price of a large cheese pizza in the United States is $19.34, up 4% from last year according to the report.
Clever crunched the pizza numbers from the country's 50 largest metro areas in its ranking of the nation's top pizza cities, measuring factors including how many pizzerias there are per 100,000 residents, the average rating of each restaurant and the average cost of a pie.
Though New York has the most expensive pizza in the country, it is also considered the best. Clever found that Gotham had the best reputation for pizza, with 41% of Americans considering it a top five pizza city.
These are the cities with the cheapest and most expensive pizza, according to Clever data.

Most of the places where it is the cheapest I would never want to visit. Heck, pretty much the same for the most expensive.
$15-$20 an hour employees will do this.
Pizza has been a big time mark up for years. Dough, tomato sauce, cheese, sliced meats, olive oil and toppings. $28 bucks buys one a nice sit down restaurant meal in many places. I got tired of the rip off that is pizza so I now make my own. It’s more work and not as good but it’s tasty enough for me.
I no longer eat pizza because it makes me fat.
Invest in a “baking steel” or a “baking stone” and get your oven as hot as it will go. Some top out at 500 F, others at 550 F. Buy pre-made pizza dough and stretch it out. Or make your own dough (it’s very easy to do). Works best if you use a “preferment” and let that sit for 24 hours.
We turn out great pizzas at home.

NY pizza slices----$4.00 each
ABQ, NM: Sunny days every day and 2 pizza slices = $8.60
Ancient megapricey pizza found in the boroughs ping!
NYC has the world’s best pizza. Here in PA it’s about half the price for a similar experience. Less crime too.
NBC is full of CBS...
Atlanta - Fellini’s Pizza - large cheese pizza is $17.00, a fully loaded large is $23.95. Those prices look pretty reasonable given other cities.
Little Joey's Tuesday special large pepperoni is $10.99.
If the guys making the pizza don’t sound like Mafia hit men, then it’s not pizza...so that should also be factored in.
I get a pizza pie in NYC for $12.00.
I do not need a fancy and expensive pizza. The convenience store nearby has a little cafe counter and they sell a “supreme” pizza for about $12.00.
But then I take a frozen Digiorno thin crust pizza, let it thaw, add my own toppings (and more cheese), and bake it at 500 in a pre-heated dark metal pizza pan, and it’s just as good as delivery.
THey forgot San Pelosishitsco. But those do come with free turd toppings.
