I was told that the shamash was the 'master'. Not the servant.
2 Maccabees 10:1-9
Chanukah symbolizes the Messianic Light of day. A day that will live in infamy:
One data point concerns the date, because the word light -- "ohr" -- is the 25th word of the Torah. It's the first appearance of "light".
"Wave or particle?" [?גל או חלקיק]
= 288, which is a famous number associated with the first light of Creation.
On shape-shifting and freedom:
AMOEBA:Shape, movement and nutrition:Etymology
From Ancient Greek ἀμοιβή (amoibḗ, “change”), referring to constantly changing shape of these organisms. (Wiktionary)
"Amoeba do not have cell walls, which allows for free movement."
***
(It's the simple meaning.)
Naturally, the Hebrew "amoeba" [אֲמֶבָּה] is also from the Greek. But of course anyone free-minded enough to bust out sees that the word is
אם בה, a mother in her.
Even Ruth, the archetypal convert, who was on the move out of MOAB.
(mtDNA, mDNA, medina, from Dina...)
I have seen the morning burning golden on the mountain in the skyTrigger *is* the embodiment of this message and the song. Go Trigger, Go! Beautiful.
Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies..
Happy Chanukah!
I don't have any Jewish ancestry that I can trace, but I figure anyone with German, French, Spanish or Portuguese ancestry probably has Jewish ancestors in the Middle Ages who converted to Christianity either under coercion or for some other reason. (One of the Merovingian kings of the Franks forced a lot of Jews to convert.)
For those who might be curious, in Israel the dreidl is a ‘sivivon’. Hanukah gelt is ‘dmei chanukah’.
we used to get Chanukah Gelt instead of a Christmas Bonus at work, it all spends the same... 8^)
