To: Red Badger
Jesus observed Hanukkah (John 10.22--called Encaenia in the Vulgate) but there is no mention of dreidels. When were they first used? The name looks German.

I don't have any Jewish ancestry that I can trace, but I figure anyone with German, French, Spanish or Portuguese ancestry probably has Jewish ancestors in the Middle Ages who converted to Christianity either under coercion or for some other reason. (One of the Merovingian kings of the Franks forced a lot of Jews to convert.)
