Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A truck hit a concrete pillar on a Texas highway Tuesday, causing hundreds of watermelons to spill into the roadway.

The 18-wheeler crashed into the pillar about 3:51 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 69, near University Boulevard, in Sugar Land.
The crash caused the truck's trailer to break open and flood the roadway with smashed watermelons.
No injuries were reported.
Multiple lanes were closed for about six hours while crews worked to clean up the melons and spilled fuel.
Rumor has it that a it was broadsided by a Churches Chicken Truck.

I’d laugh at that, but I’m White, and I like Fried Chicken and Watermelon.

Gene Wolfe once wrote a sci fi story based on the fact that someone heard him talking about Sugar Land, TX and thought he was talking about some imaginary place, like the Land of Oz. Called “The Eyeflash Miracles”.
The Sierra Club, Earth Liberation Front, and Greenpeace expressed their condolences for the tragedy. Stated former senator and climate activist al-Gore: “Never has so much green-on-the-outside-red-on-the-inside been destroyed in a single incident. We mourn the loss of our fellow watermelons.”
No waffles were harmed.
