What were Israelites known as from the time of Abraham to Jacob?

I'm just wondering, because radical blacks argue that they were known as Hebrews, which I don't think is the case.

I only know they became Israelites, after Jacob wrestled the angel.

Maybe, but I don’t know.
That was the language they spoke and maybe that is what they were called, but I’m not certain.

I appreciate their desire for exactness, which is part of the reason I am asking.

Genesis 14:13 - "And behold one that had escaped told Abram the Hebrew, who dwelt in the vale of Mambre the Amorrhite, the brother of Escol, and the brother of Aner: for these had made league with Abram.'

The Israelites were 1/3 less calories than the regular Israel.

US Black radicals complete lack of any grasp of history is utterly sick

Arab’s are not black. They are a semetic people just like the Jews.

In fact Arabs had to be forced to stop taking slaves from Africa in the early 20th century by a combination of British and French diplomatic pressure and the British Navy.

https://www.inss.org.il/publication/black-antisemitism/

Beginning in the early 20th century, American Jews had been Blacks’ foremost ally in the struggle for integration and racial justice. This article explores how, when, why, and by whom this alliance was challenged and then sundered, increasingly replaced by Blacks’ strong bond with Arabs, especially Palestinian Arabs, whom they identified as fellow anti-racist people of color.

Hebrew is the earliest known descriptor of Abram in terms of the people he belonged to. Hebrew remained a descriptor of his descendants even after becoming known as Israelites (post-Jacob) and Jews (post-Kingdom of Judah).

So I would go with Hebrew. That remains true regardless of whatever fanciful nonsense radical blacks cook up.

Stele of Merenptah, 1207 B.C., has a line that mentions the nation of “Israel”.

Yep.

https://www.oneforisrael.org/bible-based-teaching-from-israel/what-does-the-word-hebrew-mean/

“Abram was called “Abraham the Hebrew” in Genesis 14:13, which is the first time that the word is used in the Bible.”

Genesis 14:13 KJV

And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

No appreciable difference, but different.

“No appreciable difference, but different.”

God changed Abram’s name to Abraham.

Abraham fathered two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. Ishmael’s descendents are Arabs. Isaac fathered two sons, Jacob and Esau, whose descendents became enemies.
