Walmart's policy requiring senior citizens to present a drivers license to purchase beer or wine is harassment and is blatantly discriminatory on the basis of age.

It really is publicly insulting, humiliating, and demeaning and probably discriminatory for elderly citizens to have to go through this charade at the hands of witless cashiers (young enough to be their grandchildren) whenever a bottle or two of wine is included with groceries. Where's the lawyer who would try this case?

Kroger does the same. Takes away the cashier having to judge if a kid is 17 or 18 or whatever the legal age is.

Benjamin Button was busted for attempting to purchase alcohol at age 17.

He totally looked like a senior citizen.

I always question why my kids get carded at the restaurant and I don’t.

It’s not just Walmart, I’ve been card checked at quite a few airports in my days, even though my hair was completely gray and as you stated I could be the person’s parent or grandparent in some cases.

So don’t buy alcohol there. Plenty of other places.

No. It’s the law in many states. Why is presenting an ID an infringement? You really need to pick your battles. I am way beyond the legal age and it has never bothered me to show my ID. The only time I shouldn’t be required to show ID is to vote. /sar

This isn't Little Green Footballs, OK?

We're not always going to be in agreement with the topic, and we have the right to offer counterarguments.

That's not trolling or being disruptive, it's debate.

New Mexico has such strict penalties for selling alcohol to underaged people that many establishments have set rules that you must present photo ID no matter what your apparent age. It really is amusing sometimes. Annoying as well.

At mine all they do is scan their employee badge and select “NO” to “Does customer look under 40?”

Actually, I recall reading of kids “dressing up as the elderly” to get booze. Anyhow, I do believe that the establishments that card everybody is simply to protect their butts from a lawsuit. That’s all. They lawyers tell them to do it.
