You’re lovin’ it — but is it too good to be true?

A McDonald’s employee revealed how their iced tea is made — and claim it’s a lot sweeter than most customer’s might think.

TikTok user @gia2bad claims she’s letting viewers in on how the beloved drink is really made, leaving them stunned at what they’ve allegedly been consuming.

In the now-viral video — which has garnered 1.3 million views and 101,700 likes as of Monday morning — Gia exposed the fast food chain for putting an entire four-pound bag of sugar into their iced tea.

“If y’all were wondering why the sweet tea so sweet at McDonald’s,” she wrote in the text over the video, which showed her emptying a bag of White Satin sugar into a bucket of tea and stirring it up.

“Yes we use a whole bag sometimes 2,” she added in the caption.

Viewers rushed to the comments to express their shock.

Sweet Tea is always HIGH in sugar... though less sweet that KOOL AID.

Kool Aid has double the sugar of Sweet Team, 1 cup of sugar for 2 quarts of Kool Aid

Sweet Tea is 1 cup per gallon.

I can’t say how McDonald’s makes it, but that’s the recipe I’ve been using since my brith in NC.

People watching their sugar often greatly understimate the amount of sugar that can be in their beverages. It can be enormous.

Plain water and black coffee are about your only safe bets.

I understand sweet tea is a southern tradition. Super sweet is the whole point, isn’t it? I haven’t learned much over my life, but one thing I’ve learned is that if something tastes very sweet, it has a lot of sugar in it. So I’m not sure what the news is here

Why are these little Tiked Off turds only attacking McDonalds? McDonalds and others need to start suing these retarded little freaks. If people want “Sweet Tea”, that’s their business. McDonalds has every right to sell it. Southerners have been drinking “sweet tea” for decades. McDonalds also has unsweetened tea. Get over it and stay the hell out of their business.

McDonald’s sweet tea specifies a brix (dissolved solids %) of about 6.2%, vs. a Coke/Pepsi who have a brix of about 11%

Note, your morning glass of orange juice has a brix also of about 11.8% (so most sodas imitate the natural sugar level of fruit juices)

So while McDonald’s sweet tea has sugar, its less than your average non-diet soda.

So what? Does anyone really think that eating anything from McDonald’s is healthy? Its called junk food for a reason. This is no secret. People should not make McDonald’s or other fast food a regular part of their diet. If they go every once in a while and have this ice tea, they will be fine.

My grandmother from Alabama made sweet tea the old fashioned way, including putting it on the window sill to get some sun.

It did include a LOT of sugar.

There you go. Same here and it must be pretty popular. It’s harder than hell to find unsweetened tea in their cold drink refrigerators.

Sacrilidge! You don’t add sugar to the tea; you steep tea in the sugar water.

Well, duh. It’s sweet tea. Just be glad they are not putting corn syrup or other garbage sweeteners in there.

So what? I make and sweet tea, but I am not diabetic or pre-diabetic, whatever that is. The key is to imbibe in moderation. I don’t eat at McDonald or at any other fast food joint. That doesn’t mean I want others to avoid these restaurants.
