Senate Democrats quash bid to create audit office for Ukraine aid

Who are they protecting here?

What are they hiding?

That's about all one can ask now that Democrats have quashed two measures to set up an independent Ukraine aid auditing office under one audit umbrella.

According to Fox News, the plan was this:

Amid the Democratic-controlled Senate’s ongoing National Defense Spending Authorization Act (NDAA) talks, GOP Sens. Josh Hawley, James Risch, Roger Wicker and John Kennedy drafted an amendment to create an exclusive Ukraine spending oversight office, led by the president’s choice.

...and according to the New York Post, it got this:

Senate Democrats banded together Wednesday night to oppose the creation of a new office to audit US military assistance for Ukraine as part of a provision in the annual defense spending bill.

Forty-five Democrats — including every member of the Senate Armed Services Committee — voted down an amendment to establish an Office of the Lead Inspector General for Ukraine Assistance as part of the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

...and...

If passed, it would have allotted $10 million from the NDAA’s $886 billion budget toward the creation of a 30-person inspector general’s office.

A second proposal, which might have been an even better one, was to transfer the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction auditor's office to Ukraine, meaning, the guys inspecting how the Ukraine cash is spent would be the same experienced professionals who monitored Afghanistan and would not be appointed by Joe Biden. That, too, was rejected. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who has called for audits from the start, favored that one.

The U.S. has already shelled out either $113 billion or $192 billion in aid to the beleaguered country, depending on the source, with no significant oversight.

Why anyone could oppose these measures is beyond reason, and suggests something funny...

The had to kill it. The results would have been embarrassing. And, politically damaging.

This is the largest ongoing theft of tax payers money in the history of the US, and absolutely no one is even willing to look into it? Then again, the tens of billions of dollars of US equipment abandoned during senile Joe’s Afghanistan debacle was met with no questions either.

Disgusting, utterly shameful.

All those people who support the Ukraine war, also support there being no accountability for any of the money or weapons being sent there to fight another proxy war with Russia.

Thank you for referencing that article MtnClimber.

"Senate Democrats quash bid to create audit office for Ukraine aid [??? emphasis added]"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Justice Joseph Story had commented that peacetime foreign aid is unconstitutional anyway.

If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).

So if this were a better world, no foreign aid means no need to police foreign aid.

But as suggested in OP, I think that all that Democrats (and RINOs?) who killed policing of unconstitutional foreign aid wanted was not to make funneling of taxpayer dollars more difficult.

Democratic and Republican Trump supporters desperately need to primary all state and federal incumbents trying to get reelected in 2024, except for MTG and Gaetz, so that Trump 47 can return to Oval Office with a new supportive state and federal governments.

Those numbers are pretty close. It’s only an $80B rounding error

Wow! I forgot the Clinton Benghazi cover-up debacle. It has special meaning to me, it happened shortly after I left the State Department.

What amazed me then, was every.single. DOS employee knew it was a coverup for illegally getting Khadafi’s arms to Syria,….consulates”, safe houses, “ CIA annexes”, a U.S. Ambassador leaving Libya’s Embassy into a rebel, war torn zone…..every single State protocol was violated- and not a word from anybody.

That was when I KNEW, beyond any doubt our DOS was severely corrupted by Clinton. Rice, the previous Sec of State was involved in shady hush, hush dealings, but nothing that involved the deliberate murder of US personnel ( that I know of).

Well now? You can’t have a democrat voting to investigate the money laundering of other democrats? That would not be a cabal thing to do!
