VIEWPOINT 2: Gerald Ford, a fill-in or filled with consequence?

Although Gerald R. Ford was never elected as vice president or president and served for only two-and-a-half years, didn’t get the United States involved in many foreign adventures, and inconsistently muddled through in combating the stagflation created by his two predecessors, he was a far more critical president than one who merely filled in during the second term of the disgraced Richard Nixon, who had appointed him vice president and then resigned.

Ford was so consequential because of one decision: his unconditional and blanket pardon of Nixon to prevent his likely indictment and possible conviction for crimes he committed in office.

Ford defended the pardon by saying that any indictment, trial and conviction of Nixon would have distracted the American government and public from important problems, domestic and foreign, that the country was facing. He made other statements that insisted he was trying to reunify the country after the national nightmare of Watergate.

Nixon was a political takedown, not a disgrace.

Biden is exponentially more disgraceful the Nixon ever was. Byron does not face consequences because the media is covering for him.

I remember Ted Kennedy acknowledging later that Ford probably did the right thing in pardoning Nixon which I found kind of strange given his escape from prosecution over Mary Jo Kopechne’s death. The poor girl had four hours of oxygen left in the back seat of the car and this fraud walked past houses with their lights on and supposedly “swam back” to his hotel without telling anyone. Ted wore a neck brace one day, when he had to go to court. So his “lectures” on the law run a bit shallow as does the commentary of this pompous clown who somehow misses the multimillion dollar criminal bribes paid by foreign governments to the Biden family.

Ford was INSTALLED by the Deep State.

He signed the instruction that made foreign aid dependent on participating in birth control programs and forbade the build-up of infrastructure that could have made third world countries self-sufficient.

He was warned that if those countries developed and grew, they would seek benefit of their own natural resources, and we would no longer be able to exploit them.

Nixon was a political takedown, not a disgrace.

Deep Throat was the number two man at the FBI. They've been deciding who governs us for a long time.

Some of the released documents from the JFK assassination files show that Gerald Ford (a member of the Warren Commission) changed the path of the bullet in the draft report. The change was in Ford’s own handwriting.

The change was made to support the “single bullet” theory.

Ford was a tool of the Deep State—obviously not a forensics expert!

“I think pardoning Nixon was the right thing to do”

I would have preferred Nixon being jailed since he did more to advance the Leftist agenda than any other president, before or after. But I agree that Watergate was vastly overblown.

One would think that perhaps the Republicans would learn something - that the Democrats are NEVER going to protect a Republican, when they smell blood - no matter how much the Republican tries to placate them.

Pardoning Nixon OK. Pardoning the draft dodgers for political cover, at the same time, who fled to Canada and overseas. Not OK.

What is it about putting hyphens in word descriptions of numbers? You don’t need any hyphens to say two and a half miles or two and a half cups, so why do they say two-and-a-half-years? At that I refuse to read further. I don’t care what his opinion of Gerald Ford was.

1976-the country was not ready for Reagan after the previous 8 years. 1980-thank Carter.

Reagan was ineligible to be appointed in ‘74. 2 Californians.

Should Ford have taken himself out? Who else did we have? Dole was the worst thing he had going for him outside the pardon. 20 years later Dole’s the nominee. Go figure.

Watch Tucker Carlson’s piece on Richard Nixon. Set up by the CIA. Deep Throat was CIA. The people doing the Breakin, CIA. The CIA didn’t like Nixon, he wanted out of Vietnam. They obviously took him out. Ford was ‘the only choice’ Nixon was given for VP.

I wonder how much about the CIA’s connection to JFK and Nixon would have been made public if he had been prosecuted? I suspect it was part of the ‘operation’ to pardon Nixon and prevent potential connections to the CIA interference into the political system.

I am sure glad the intelligence services would NEVER to the same kind of political interference again....... ROFLOL

Even after everything they did against Trump, he pulled it off and beat Hillary - caught the CIA flatfooted. Boy are they pissed.

Ford and Nixon was where the MSM discovered they could influence voters with constant negative press.
Nixon was targeted for his Israeli airlift resupply after the ‘73 war.
Israel would have collapsed without it.

Watergate was a fabrication as Nixon and his staff correctly identified Daniel Elsberg as a possible leak of nuclear secrets to the Soviets.
He was an employee at Sandia Labs in weapons design.

Ford was a WW2 war hero who saved his ship during Halsey’s Typhoon.
The MSM wanted him out too so they attacked him for being stupid and clumsy.

They then used the same game plan on Reagan, Bush41, Bush43, Trump and they will keep doing it unless they are stopped.

The clause about P & VP from the same state applies to the electoral college not the amendment.

Ford did at first say he wouldn’t run again then changed his mind — at the insistence of the liberal wing who didn’t want Reagan in ‘76.

Baker would have been a better choice than Ford too.

I have no doubts a President Harris would grant the same pardon for Biden.
