Republicans damned if they do, damned if they don’t in Trump’s 2024 candidacy
NY Post ^ | 5/20/2023 | Michael Goodwin

Whatever their game plan, party and finances, nearly all candidates for president start with the same two challenges: First, win the nomination and then unite your party to have a shot at winning the general election.

Then there are those unlucky candidates in this year’s Republican field who face a third challenge.

By the end of this week, there will be at least seven contestants in a race to see who gets to go head-to-head with Donald Trump for the GOP crown.

But wait, there’s yet another obstacle for that lucky survivor.

If he or she manages to defeat Trump for the nomination, there is a good chance Trump will take many of his supporters and run as a third-party candidate, or tell them to stay home, dooming the GOP nominee to defeat in the general.

This is the crux of it: if Trump wins the primary there is little chance he wins the general.

If Trump does not win the primary, he will effectively take his ball and go home by either going third party or telling his supporters to stay home (which he did in Georgia). Goodwin thinks this will ensure the Dems will control the whole of government after 2024.

There is only one political party in this country. And opposing them, is only Trump.

I’ll write his name in if I have to. The GOPe will do nothing to help me, so I am not eager to vote for them.

If anybody but DJT takes the primary, whomever they are, they face certain defeat at what purports to be an “election”.

The swamp is being drained right now, and it is all happening, as needed and as it should, on bidAn’s watch.

“there is little chance he wins the general”

Ok. We’re guessing that’s a fact in some circle?

Exactly.

Actually, there are two political parties in the USA:

The DJT-led (with members like Jim Jordan) Patriot America-first Constitutional Party.

And, the other party, the treasonous Uni-party.

What data have you seen that says Trump cannot win the general election? last poll I saw Trump was ahead by 7 % points, nearly 50%..only came up short by 44k last time...stop repeating false MSM consultant narrative...same thing Desantis can win general...when he can’t even crack 20% in primary...you paid shills need to stay off public boards pushing nonsense..propaganda narrative...is this the next level of control?

It will actually doom the GOP as a major political party. Creating and maintaining a Washington Generals-style faux opposition was not cheap - the Deep State would have to start all over and spend a lot of money. /s

Crystal ball gazing is so often flawed. It should not be submitted as factual or of any weight.

There is only one political party in this country. And opposing them, is only Trump.

Shouldn't this be clear to everyone by now?

Initially I loved his tweets, but they became counter-productive in short order. There is something to be said for acting Presidential. He should have been above the attacks and just done his job.

I will always be thankful to him for what he did with SCOTUS, but that's where it ends. We cannot move forward with him as the head of The Party. He won one election and has lost all subsequent elections. I adhere to ideas, not men. What do you adhere to?

I mean, the article literally says “Opinion” at the link so I’m not sure what your issue is.

Waste of time/speculation.

Trump DEFINITELY wins the primary, and then DEFINITELY beats Bite-Me in the general.

And Trump did win. Election fraud vitiates the election but the fraud was sizable and widespread enough that anyone who has reviewed the evidence knows that Trump won.
