Roku Channel Recommendations
3/11/2023 | Me

Posted on 03/11/2023 3:19:37 PM PST by ducttape45

Good evening fellow Freepers. I just got me a Roku device and I'm looking for suggestions for what I should add to my channel lineup.

I got some already, but I'm looking for more conservative news channels as well as family friendly movie/TV channels to subscribe to.

Thanks all!

For news, start with Real American’s Voice and occasional Blaze.

Pluto is free and has a lot of old tv/movies.

We use Philo for $32 a month for live tv. They have a dvr type service you can use and fast forward through commercials on it. For news I download the local stations apps and they play the local news live or on a loop.

Just go to youtube and look for roku setup tutorial

You will just need to find your particular model of roku.

We have Roku. We watch a lot of the British shows, as the Brits do TV series so much better than we do.

Check out “Enemy at the Door,” and “Island at War.” Both are about the Channel Islands during the German occupation in WWII. The latter was only on for one season, which has disappointed a lot of people who liked the series.

You are smart to go with Roku: DUMP cable TV!

I’ve had it set up for quite some time... and use it.
What I don’t understand is how I use it without cable. I have it installed as one of my apps on Spectrum.

PLUTO!

There’s so much on Pluto, you might not need another channel. :)

“the Brits do TV series so much better than we do.”

Agree!

Even their Top Gear was superior to ours!

I didn’t know people still bought ROKU. Nearly all TVs made in the last 5 years have a ROKU-like functionality built into it.

ROKU is just the device. It will show Houma list of channels that or can stream to you. Some of them require monthly fees and some are free. You can look over the list of channels and google them for more info on what they cost and how to sign up. I

Ok, I got those two programmed in, and I have Pluto TV as well. I even got Shoutfactory. I was hoping that MeTV would be there but it’s not. Bummer. That channel has a lot of TV shows I liked to watch when I was younger.

I haven't watched cable TV in well over 10 years, especially when they dumped a lot of channels I liked to watch.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Have used Roku for 5+ years and it’s awesome. No cable. Use streaming services for specific series/movies, then cancel to avoid ongoing monthly fees for services we don’t watch. Highly recommend YouTube TV ($60/mo) as primary source for standard “cable” channels. Hate to pay Google anything, but YouTube TV is worth it.

I know Roku has a bunch of other free content but I haven’t spent much time with it. Good luck!

Yes to Pluto. Can watch MST3000 any time (and a lot of other series and movies). Don’t have to maintain a library and the storage space.
