Mike Pompeo: Trump told me ‘shut the hell up’ about China COVID secrecy
WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo alleges in an explosive new memoir that former President Donald Trump told him to “shut the hell up for a while” about China hiding early COVID-19 pandemic information — after Chinese President Xi Jinping said it was a sore topic.
Pompeo writes that Xi was furious about the top US diplomat’s criticism of Beijing’s non-transparency at a March 25, 2020, State Department press conference and asked Trump during a March 26 call to silence him.
Xi told Trump that Pompeo was putting at risk the “phase one” trade deal that the two leaders had brokered that January, according to Semafor, which obtained part of Pompeo’s “Never Give An Inch” ahead of its Jan. 24 release.
“My Mike, that f–ing guy hates you!” Trump exclaimed after the call, according to Pompeo, who was listening in on the conversation.
Days later, Trump allegedly told Pompeo he was “putting us all at risk” by upsetting Xi because the US needed personal protective equipment from China.

I believe him. Trump was POTUS. He gets to set policy. He’s the one leading negotiations. It was a very tenuous time - Trump had slapped trade sanctions on Chinese goods; and then banned travel, and there was a Pandemic. POTUS absolutely has the right and perhaps obligation to tell his SOS to “shut the hell up for a while” while POTUS grapples with sensitive issues involving foreign governments, trade, travel and other policy issues - especially if the SOS is speaking out of turn or off the cuff.
Personally I see nothing wrong here. If Pompeo is trying to get my sympathy he didn’t. If he’s trying to make Trump look bad he didn’t. All of this is part of the job(s).
Does the left do this to people like Clinton, Obama or Biden? I could be wrong but I can’t think of one book where someone who worked for Clinton, Obama or Biden put out a book backstabbing any of them. Yet we got every last person who ever worked for Trump, people even remotely connected to Trump putting out books bashing him AND do I even have to guess as 2024 comes closer the books are going to be flooding out? Drives me nuts because the REAL crooks are left alone!

I do..this one actually sounds very plausible and within Trump’s nature to worry about the deal.
