Shortly after midnight, in the early morning of December 13, 2022, the owner of a 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat was parking the vehicle in a driveway in Eastpoint, Michigan, a part of the Detroit metroplex. He was approached by more than one suspect in an apparent carjacking attempt.
From Eastpoint Police and Fire Department:
On December 13, 2022, at approximately 12:30 am, Eastpointe Police Officers were dispatched to the area of the 23 thousand block of Hayes on an attempt carjacking and shots fired complaint. The suspects approached the victim while he was parking his vehicle (2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat) in the driveway. During the attempted robbery, the suspects and victim exchanged gunfire. The victim was a CPL holder. The suspects then fled in a stolen Chevy Impala.
Shortly after the exchange of gun fire, it was reported that a male, who was later identified as one of the suspects, had checked himself into a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. As Eastpointe Detectives were in route to the hospital, the suspect had fled.
After an exhaustive investigation, Eastpointe Detectives and Eastpointe Special Investigation Unit teamed up with the Detroit Police Organized Crime Unit and tracked the stolen Impala to Clinton Township. Eastpointe Detectives worked with Clinton Township Police and located the stolen vehicle. The suspect later exited a residence and entered the vehicle. After a brief vehicle pursuit, the suspect was arrested without incident.
Search warrants were executed at the residence and the stolen vehicle. Evidence of the crime was recovered. We are still working on locating the second suspect. We want to personally thank our Detroit Police and Clinton Twp. Police neighbors for their assistance.
ARRESTED

The first couple of uses of Eastpointe are misspelled as Eastpoint.
What color was the 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat?
Eastpointe used to be a moderately upscale city called East Detroit, it changed its name in the 1980’s so as not to be associated with Detroit.
You must be acutely aware of your surroundings when you are just exiting your car and when you just get in your car. Your mind is rarely focused on anything but locking the car or taking your stuff out of the trunk.
Lately, I have been practicing checking all around my car when I approach it and locking the door the instant I’m inside and the door closes. For an old dog, this is a new trick and has taken some getting used to, but I’m doing it regularly. If you don’t lock it manually, many doors lock only after the car begins moving. It could be too late by then. Lock the doors immediately after you enter the car.
I always park at the end of the lot where my car is usually not close to other vehicles. This gives me time to scout as I approach my car.
It is far easier to say if Black people are in the area be very wary, every where.
Kind of ruins their day or night depending on the time of the interaction.

He tried to lam but they cheesed him
Aspiring rapper I presume

I hope the car wasn’t damaged.
Good idea; when exiting your car, make sure the safety is off on your concealed weapon.
I mostly avoid cities.
Couldn’t pay me enough to live in one.
Good idea; when exiting your car, make sure the safety is off on your concealed weapon.
That is extremely dangerous.
Getting out of your car is awkward, off balance and a great opportunity to drop your weapon or cause it to discharge while putting on winter coat, hat or whatever. It must stay in the holster, safety on, until required.
If you can’t thum the safety, get a revolver.
How long before possession of a car like the Hellcat will be deemed provocative and brand the owner for tempting the poor thief.
All my SIG SAUER hand guns have no manual safety. None go off by themselves without pulling the trigger. The best guidance is don’t put your finger on the trigger until one acquires a target.
Giving a retarded pavement ape a Hellcat is like giving a monkey a grenade with the pin pulled.
King Ludd, I feel for you for having to exercise all these precautions just to get out of your car. I really do.
But, I will take this opportunity to remind you and readers that there are thousands of counties in America to live in that have no crime or very little crime. I NEVER think about getting out of my car. We’ve had one murder in ten years and that was some guy who shot his wife after she shot him! I’ve never heard of a car jacking around here or a robbery. We do have a few burglaries.
Best of luck to you and yours!
