There was meth-od to this Florida man’s madness.
Jason Hardy will spend 10 years in prison after getting caught trying to mail meth to himself.
He pleaded guilty and received his sentence Monday, the Justice Department said in a press release.
Hardy put his real Florida address on the package and used his real name, real phone number and real email address in conversations with the U.S. Postal Service, the feds said.
According to investigators, Hardy was plotting to send 18 pounds of meth from California to Florida, and he even flew out to the West Coast to coordinate delivery.
Hardy put the meth in a package and listed his home Florida address as the return address, the feds said. Authorities were alerted to the suspicious item, searched it on July 19, 2020, and found the drugs inside.
On July 22, 2020, Hardy “called to inquire about the status of the package. He identified himself by his first name and provided his true phone number and email address,” the Justice Department said.
Hardy pleaded guilty in January 2021 to conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
We can only thank God that most criminals are dumb.

The stupidity alone is worth about 5 years in the pokey.
Consider the street price for meth in CA vs. Fl. 18 pounds would I think be an indication that Fl. man was going to sell at a profit. Just picked the wrong supply chain method. Should have spent the extra cost on UPS.
Well of course he did. Using a false name and address with the USPS and you could get into trouble.
At least “Florida Man” is usually an accurate descriptor. “Teens” evokes images for some of Eddie Haskell or losers in the high school smoking area*, rather than thuggish young Blacks.

Yup, there should be additional penalty enhancements for this level of stupidity, because you just know anyone this stupid is likely to do even more stupid stuff once released. There’s no cure for this level of stupidity lol.

Well, there you go. If you are going to mail drugs to yourself, always put down some enemy of yours as the return address.
Using a fake return address and mailing something to yourself gives you plausible deniability, however calling to inquire the status of the delivery negates that defense.
