From the article ...

“The caller also said the man was pointing his rifle at the interior of his home, police said.

The caller then stated the man just fired into his own home.

The caller said the police were on scene and the man fired again, police said.”

as long as police can shoot anyone with zero consequences for any reason, this will continue.

Sounds like one of those instances where a good guy with a gun gets mistaken for a bad guy, like that supermarket shooting in Boulder. Who was the homeowner shooting at?

I was watching an old episode of ‘Adam 12’ where Reed and Malloy were answering a call about a distraught woman waving a gun. They arrived on-scene, stayed behind their cruiser, and talked the woman into dropping the gun. Nobody shot anybody.

Yeah, I know it’s just a pretend TV show. But it displayed solid and calm police work. I guess those days are gone, if they ever existed in the first place.

Police are a bigger danger to the public than career criminals

Only in rare events are the cops your friend.

Some cops are just a little too trigger happy. If I were holding a gun and saw the cops approaching I would immediately drop my weapon out of fear of being shot myself before the cops realized what the situation was.

Atatiana Jefferson in Fort Worth shot by cops and died. She picked up her pistol when she heard prowlers, that is, the cops.

Happened in NJ and SC too. The victims in the cases I recall survived.

“The caller said the police were on scene and the man fired again, police said.”

One would need to see the body cam footage to ascertain what really happened. If the police show up and you are firing rounds you will likely be taken down as was this guy.

I know things can happen in the blink of an eye, but there has to be some time between the police command to shots fired.

An additional consideration is the person with the gun most likely has his adrenaline pumping which could inhibit his processing the command and his fear of the intruder. Similar to when police get into high speed pursuits, which is why they changed police pusuit policies.

But afterwards, cops are given several days to calm down before they have to answer any questions about their actions.

And then there was the recent incident in Vancouver Washington where the responding sheriff’s deputy shot and killed the off duty officer, with his weapon out, who was chasing the perp out of his house.

Joe Johnson of Idaho Falls was killed by a cop in his own backyard in February 2021.

Where there are many armed citizens, police ought to expect law-abiding armed citizens protecting their homes and their neighbors.

They did show the body cam video, the cop started shooting before he even finished saying “drop your weapon”.

My entire acreage is fenced and gated.
Guard animals free roam.
Nobody is here un-announced or are a surprise.
If you own guns, perhaps you should take similar defensive actions.
The government is not your friend anymore.
Cops are allowed to kill with impunity most the time.
Their number one job is to get home alive.
Contrary to common mis-conceptions being a cop is not even in the top ten for most dangerous jobs.

There were many calibers and weapons one could use in the 60s that would go through a car “like paper”.

It’s not like the 60s (when Adam-12 was made) were using black powder and musket balls.
