I don’t think it will happen, but it is interesting to think about.
Simple. The nation would fall into chaos. The Chinese would likely move in, or failing that, civil war would break out, resulting in tens of millions dead. In the end, there would likely be a Balkanization of the USA, with the survivors living a much reduced existence, both materially and with greatly reduced freedom.
Benn looking for that hidden valley for a while now with no success.
After a time of chaos, we would see the rise of warlords. Eventually, one would arise that would promise a peace but at the cost of servitude. Millions would die but that is a price the left will gladly pay.

This is fantasy. It won’t happen because ‘shrugging’ must be organized, and needs to happen by, say 20%-30% of the republic, and the form isn’t even defined or unified in any way. There are zero Galts in sight.

Actual Americans, otherwise known as MAGA or AmericaFirst supporters, are getting more and more pissed by the day.
This is a “What If?” and it contains an undistributed middle term so it’s not quite a syllogism/analogy. The John Galt people had an escape hatch that let them go and live the way they were inclined.
We don’t quite have that yet. For us to shrug now would be to abandon our position of “We’re still here” — a disaster for our children, more of a shirk than a shrug.

I think this is a real possibility. As I’ve said, ONLY Trump can get the blue collar midwestern non-affiliated voters.
The research is in “The Great Revolt” by Salena Zito released after 2016 and in “Bellwether Blues” by John Jacubowski. In addition to general stats, they conducted hundreds of in person interviews with non-traditional voters-—voters who had never voted before or, in Jacubowski’s case, who had voted 2x for Zero then Trump.
These people HATE the GOP. They hate DemoKKKrats too, but that’s not our problem. Our problem is they will not turn out for a Ron DeSantis or anyone else viewed as a “corporatist” or “traditional” Republican concerned with Wall Street, tax cuts, and foreign wars. So far, only Trump of all the candidates has issued anything except glowing support for the Uke war, which is deeply unpopular with these people. No one supporting giving money to the Ukes is gonna get their vote. As Tudor Dixon said yesterday on the Rush Limbaugh show, MI Trump voters didn’t come out because only Trump had promised to keep the auto jobs there. Now the DemoKKKrats are tying to slip this to “electric vehicles,” which require battery plants-—which are NOT being built there.
Overall, I think we’re screwed. The media/RINOs have done such a good job of demonizing Trump (apparently he is viewed unfavorably by 66% of indies in a WPA poll), that he will lose a lot of the Suburban Karens, but offset with millions of blue collar types. But no other candidate will win enough Suburban Karens to offset the loss of millions of blue collar types.

This is part of my continual advocacy that we detach from the ponderous machinery of government and “the system” and let it roll on. Don’t be one of those “I’m going to not wear my mask in the store as a protest!” folks who end up getting beat up - in a few cases so far, killed - and forced to get the vaccine anyway. This society is doomed and trying to save anything about it is wrong. If “traditions” are permanent, they will survive, so don’t worry about them.
(Did anyone notice that an apartment building burned down in a Chinese city the other day and the authorities DID NOT remove the pandemic locks from the building but allowed the residents to die? And these were people who were COOPERATING.)
Concentrate on your and your loved ones’ survival. Stop feeding the beast. Go as Galt as you can afford to and develop the mindset of independence, which is one of the sacred founding principles of our Constitutional Republic.
In a great way, we asked for this by being lazy and cowardly, neglecting to vote when provided the opportunity; we yawn when we see kids getting turned into useless leftists by the public school system and then flip out when they’re holding drag shows in the school library. (Because no one can learn without getting exposed to a giant man dressed up as a woman shaking its butt in your face, don’t ya know.) You didn’t complain about the leftist teachers and so now that’s all you’ve got and suddenly HELLLLLL-OOOOOOO it’s a huge effing deal.
The impending titanic collapse of the “cryptocurrency” market should clue a few folks in to the idea that we’ll be having a Red Dawn any day now. H3ll, we already did.
Those paratroopers didn’t shoot the teacher who went out and asked them what they were up to - they gave him a bunch of literature about birth control, “safe” sex, LGBTXYZ acceptance, and gender transitioning for grade-schoolers.
