Retraction Watch reports:

After months of investigation that identified networks of reviewers and editors manipulating the peer review process, Hindawi plans to retract 511 papers across 16 journals, Retraction Watch has learned.

The retractions, which the publisher and its parent company, Wiley, will announce tomorrow in a blog post, will be issued in the next month, and more may come as its investigation continues. They are not yet making the list available.

My own view as someone who left academia after becoming a Harvard professor is that corruption has infiltrated the academy along with careerism and politicization. Correcting the situation will not be easy, but a first step would be to institute criminal penalties for research and review fraud. A “cultural revolution” of sorts is needed in academia, with a pervasive ethic of honesty enforced by social pressure as well as laws.

Academia has little to no credibility. As essential part of academic ethos is the tenet that there is no truth.

Is this some of the “settled science” we hear so much about?

Are bogus climate change papers being withdrawn? They certainly should be!

Yeah that'll happen. LOL.

The papers from Portland State University’s Peter Boghossian, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay are my favorites:

Top marks to them.

It turns out the science deniers are the scientists themselves.

But but but it’s all settled science.

Climate Science has become the umbrella for everything else. Everything has to show that climate change is taking place or you will become a non-person.

It’s basically the Soviet model.

Wondering if Dr Mercola is still being threatened for his non-conforming publications/articles.

A “cultural revolution” of sorts is needed in academia, with a pervasive ethic of honesty enforced by social pressure as well as laws.

So, an expectation of what a Judeo-Christian belief would bring.

The educational community has gotten so far away from the Scientific Method that it now accepts “consensus” as truth. If I had agreed with that attitude I never would have been permitted to graduate from high school.

I’m betting pro-transgender papers were faked. Trans activists don’t care about reality.

What they’ve done is outright fraud for many decades. They’ve made themselves ultra rich soaking taxpayer dollars with their phony research grants. They think they’re above the law since they donate so much to democrat campaigns. Harsh penalties need to be meted out so they stop doing this and they never attempt it again.

Hah, who am I kidding? They aren’t going to stop because it’s become big business for them and they buy protection from the democrat swamp.

Laws would make no difference, because it is the government which is driving the fraud — the same government which would be expected to enforce the laws.

For decades, no research happened which was not in response to a grant. To get a grant, you must satisfy a grant issuer that you will produce research results that the issuer will like. To KEEP getting Grant’s, your results need to keep the grant issues happy.

No researchers who rely on government Grant’s may dispute a vital government narrative.

Science papers are mostly wrong because people do not understand what a science paper is. What is a scientific paper? It’s a hypothesis that is unproven, and until it is proven or proofed and is observable (observable being a key word here) i.e. if it’s not observable it will always remain a hypothesis.

The “facts” of “Settled Science” might be an applied media term given to a process the media took a SWAG at and... missed.

The key to understanding being... “if it’s not observable it will always remain a hypothesis.”

Re: "institute criminal penalties for research and review fraud"

Useless.

Only political Conservatives would be charged, convicted, fined, jailed, or fired.
