Tow Trailer with rented Enterprise Chevrolet Tahoe?
08/03/2022 | Tnoldman

I am considering renting a Chevrolet Tahoe for a vacation trip soon. Enterprise says No Towing allowed. I want to tow a 5x8 Enclosed Trailer from UHaul. I need the passenger space of the Tahoe. Questions?? Do Enterprise Tahoe vehicles have a 2x2 receiver and a 4 wire Flat lighting outlet? What are the likely consequences if I tow without Enterprise blessing?

Don’t do it.

He did say camping gear, which includes more than just backpacking gear. 🙂

Sounds like you oughta look into renting a cargo van or a sprinter van.

Unfortunately this a true story about a close friend that is planning this trip.

He won’t listen to me so I thought I would get some input from my FReeper Friends. I was looking for info to help or kill this stupid plan.

Most Enterprise vehicles do not have a tow package or a hitch. You could go to a Enterprise Truck Rental and rent a F-250 SuperCrew.

Other alternatives, Full-size Ford Transit van, use the cargo area and skip the trailer.

“They had a bunch of them and all were equipped the same way.”

Hertz, Enterprise Budget and others allow towing with their trucks. I bet Avis does also.

Are you going off improve roads? Many rental contracts don’t allow.

“Other alternatives, Full-size Ford Transit van, use the cargo area and skip the trailer.”

The cargo van I rented had only 2 seats

If it came from the factory with a receiver, Enterprise likely blocked it off.

Years ago I rented a truck for a month and used it for work off road. IIRC the guy sold used cars as well and had the rental as a side thing.

The truck I got was pretty nice but had a few scratches on it. I told him I would be off in the brush and would pay him extra if need be. I returned it full of brush marks on the side and a helper tore the seat with a screwdriver in his pocket.

The guy didn’t charge me anything extra!

Does it mean the Tahoe can’t be towed or can’t tow something else or both?

One possibility is a hitch carrier that would give you more space, but it makes it difficult to get things out of the back.

That thing would require a class C license. Air Brakes and over 16,000 lbs.

“You void the contract I suspect.”

Not only that, you might wind up in jail if an injury or death accident occurs.

I sold an antique fire engine once. The new owners drove it into a box truck and drilled and bolted 4x4’s in the floor to stabilize truck. IN TOTAL VIOLATION of lease agreement. Luckily they got to Utah with no problems.

You’re right about the plan being borderline stupid. Tahoes are a bit short wheelbase for highway speed and good control for more than a few hundred pounds out back. Just tell the guy to dig a little deeper and rent a vehicle big enough to haul dogs, etc.
