And people weren’t looking for an excuse to be easily-offended.

Funny thing about powdered drink mix....we’re all very familiar with the “Drink the Kool-Aid” thing. That was connected to Jim Jones and the mass ‘suicide’ at Jonestown in Guyana.
Truth is, they used a cheaper knock-off called “Flavor-Aid”. Kool-Aid was not involved.

I got a pair of PF Flyers when I was 4 and immediately went to the back yard to try the out.
I was quite disappointed there was no vapor trail behind me like in the tv ad on Lunch With Casey.

Wow I remember those! My neighbor use to make it and freeze it to make pops and it was delicious! Of course today the company would be protested out of business.

Ha David Naughton doing the Dr. Pepper commercial. Bill Murray made fun of that on SNL.

I worked for Leo Burnett for 15 years. Steeped in Advertising here. I still have the Jolly Green Giant and Marlboro Man advertising in my home office.
Watched WAAAAAAAYYYY too much TV as a kid born in 1962. I know more advertising jingles than any human being probably should!
Love this thread and thank you so much for posting it.

Vance Packard pointed out that the ads we thought were so stupid that we groaned, were done on purpose so that our conscious mind and defenses would relax and the subliminal messages would reach us.

The Indian is why I have compassion for youngsters who are propagandized toward “climate change”. The ad and the guy’s tear had a profound affect on my attitude toward pollution that I took seriously which, today, are just good, life-long habits. Of course, I’m speaking of self responsibility. Waiting for these young Gretas to start living off the grid.

We were driving through an indian reservation with our little kids. I told the kids that there is a lot of good stuff that we can learn from the indians, but don’t push it too far. Your teachers will tell you how wonderful the indians in taking care of nature (as per the tear commercial), but look at these yards - does that look like they care about nature? (All the old cars, trash, etc.)
Not all of them were like that of coarse, but the vast majority were.

Yes.
Not sure I’d call it a knock-Off or cheap, but same deal, as was Funny Face and a few others.

I don’t know if any tv commercial will ever top Wendy’s Clara Peller and “Where’s the beef?”

Sweetened with sodium cyclamate as I recall. Same sweetener used in the effervescent soda tablets “Fizzies.”
To: Flash Bazbeaux
I don’t even know what that is.
