Ah...My son and I used to go to Kocumel and Playa del Carmen every Christmas and rent scooters and do our own tour of the ruinas in the Yucatan.
That was when you could still climb all over the ruins at Tulum. You could get a room for the night at the Club Med at Coba for $6.00 a night.

There are mounds scattered around Honduras that contain artifacts from the Mayan civilization. Most of them were destroyed during the plowing of the sugar cane fields.
A family member whose Honduran family owned several sugar cane plantations has a perfectly preserved Mayan stone carving that was unearthed during a planting season. He was able to bring it home before Honduras put a ban on the exporting of Mayan antiquities..........
