It is fun to sing along with, but I don’t consider singing along to be listening. I can sing along with a ton of songs I don’t actually know the lyrics of. My brain has memorized the sounds, but not as words really. I blame 70s rock and roll. There was a real streak of great songs that make no damn sense. Immigrant Song, Aja, pretty much anything by Bernie Taupin, the entire Yes catalog. Sure sound great. No idea what they mean.
Ragnar Loethbrok and his son Bjorn Ironsides would be pleased.
Ivar the Boneless just looks and says, “Can’t Touch This’.
You’re slamming on the Viking Kitties’ war cry? I was wondering, “Who is this newbie doesn’t even know this is the Viking Kitties’ news commentary site?” and then I see you’ve been around here since the ‘90s??? (Thank you for your service, btw, I don’t mean this as a personal attack, I’m just like, WTH?)
It has been noted that at the time the song was deemed “too harsh”, and so in 1970s fashion, the last verse was added to soften it.
“So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins.
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.”
You have to wonder what the song would have been like if they had kept the original tone and extended it by several verses.
“The entire Yes catalog.”
If Yes is the answer, uh, what was the question? I remember finding the LONG-FORM video to “Owner of a Lonely Heart” (Yes at their MOST accessible) and thinking, “Wait... these guys are serious??” Holy COW is it an absolute train wreck. But GREAT song.
Seriously, you can listen to Roger Water pontificate about Israel or watch him fantasize about being a fascist dictator and thing he’s completely balls-to-the-wall flippin’ insane, but compared to most 70s rock, The Wall sounds like an economics lesson by Thomas Sowell.
I wasn’t slamming VK. I was slamming that 50 year old “Professor of Rock.” I never mentioned a word about VK.....
This video was just an exercise in getting people to look at someone only interested in himself and pimping sponsors for monetization.....
“So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins. For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.”
“the last verse was added to soften it.”
Seriously? That last verse is what I always thought turned it from silly fantasy into chilling social commentary! From calling Islam (”submission”) “The Religion of Peace” to Stalin and Mao talking about seeking peace, I always thought the absurdity of peace through surrender to fanatical murderers was Led Zeppelin nailing it!
not listiening to the stupid talking head
if it was the music i’d listen
Hokay, I was just referring to your comment “BTW, never did like LZ, nor do I even recall “Immigrant Song” with anything other than blah............” But of course, the Led Zeppelin Viking Kitties were simply some comic relief, so no need to defend your taste.
DECADES ago, I called a local radio show with the answer to a question, who did Carly Simon write her song “You’re so Vain” about?
The only time I got in first and was correct. My prize? ALL of LZs ablums unopened..... I actually gave them to a co-op who worked for me at the time years later... I guess they’d be worth a lot now... :0)
“You have to wonder what the song would have been like if they had kept the original tone and extended it by several verses.”
I guess the song would have been ... longer. That’s about it.
gave up on this aging roadie
Same, so i just youtubed the song since NOT a zeppelin fan, didn’t know which song he was talking about.
Yeah, Led Zeppelin was always playing in the kitchen by the dishwashers at the country club where i a was a busboy. Long haired white boys doing their jobs well, and loud. Aaaaaah ah.
I absolutely ABHOR long winded, bloviated come-ons that tease the answer and drone on and on and on before getting to their stupid “reveal.”
A singer needs to articulate the words for there to be a joke to understand. That’s not something Robert Plant does.
Back in my bad ol’ days, I used to go to a dive called The Old Mill, which is actually what it was, and one night, the wheel literally fell off, taking out the wall and dumping patrons into the frozen creek.
Every night I went there, no matter which band was playing or what time I got there, Immigrant Song was starting up.
On a similar note, when I go to my GP every month, “Crazy Train” usually greets me.
/glitches in the matrix
Saw LZ in ‘71 and they opened with Immigrant Song. Concert was ok. I bought a few more of their albums and generally liked their music but when they decided to make “The Song Remains the Same” movie, that was enough. Hated it and came to the conclusion, these were the most boring individuals I ever saw. Never bought any more LZ music and don’t think I’ve ever played any of my old albums either.
Had it on a 45 soon after release - better listen quick it’s over it about 2 minutes 🤪
Heard the song a million times, neverk ew the words, never knew Jimmie wrote these lyrics with me in mind! “the grocery store! Aa a aaaaaaaaw aaaw!”
Nowadays you have obese black lesbians and skinny fat white leftist chicks twerking on cop cars. Black child molesters and the Jussie Smo Lay’s of the world are heroes and the white boy is the Jew of Hitler’s 1930’s Third Reich.
This is the Fourth Reich we live in know
