Sri Lanka's fuel stocks will last for about five more days, its power and energy minister said on Thursday, as the island nation awaits official confirmation from the Indian government for a new $500 million credit line for fuel.
The country of 22 million people is caught in its worst financial crisis in seven decades after its foreign exchange reserves dwindled to record lows, with dollars running out to pay for essential imports including food, medicine and fuel.
Chronic fuel shortages have worsened this week with kilometers-long lines at some gas stations countrywide, leading to sporadic protests as vehicle owners wait, sometimes overnight, for petrol and diesel.
The stocks cover fuel for vehicles, some industries and essential services. A month ago, the prime minister said there was only enough petrol for one day.

And five days from now...nothing will happen.
Can’t they just put up a few more windmills?
Soros and the WEF are happy.
Watch Sri Lanka closely. You are going to see 20 other countries go down the same tube.
Can’t they just grow Solar Panels?
Sri Lanka was convinced to go with the “green energy” plan to grow their food. Petroleum based fertilizer was forbidden and all the farmers used “natural compost” to grow their crops. Their food production last year was reduced by 20 percent for some crops which caused them to start making allowances for some farmers to abandon the “green” plan.
I suspect the current power problems are caused by much the same type of “central planning”.
Why don’t the Sri Lankans print money out of thin air, the way the US Federal Reserve does?
The day is coming when NO country on earth will give the USA a line of credit. We are going to be like Haiti.
++++
Normalacy bias will ocassionally sneak up on you and bite you in the backside!
And sun shines hot and brutal in Sri Lanka. Where are the solar panels?
I constantly see stories in the media of this will happen in X days or that will happen in Y months and then...it does not happen. Just like climate change, global warming or global cooling. We are 60 plus years since they started terrifying people about it and yet...nothing has happend, well, nothing out of the normal.
So, maybe this time they will actually run out of fuel but if it happens, it will be the exception because the media is constantly lying.
Sucks to be them.
Pikers! We are untold TRILLIONS in debt - and we keep on keepin’ on! Why pay your bills? None of the Cool Kids do.
“Can’t they just put up a few more windmills?”
LOL! :)
They have been saying the same thing about Iran for 5 yrs. “Iran is just weeks away from a nuclear weapon”
The country could not afford to subsidize the fertilizer, fuel, food … costs.
just buy some electric cars
Biden: I did that!
