Suns to Honor Brittney Griner with No. 42 Decal on Court for Rest of Playoffs
Bleacher Report ^ | 5/10/22 | Doris Sam

The Phoenix Suns announced that they will honor Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner with a No. 42 decal on their home floor at Footprint Center for the remainder of the NBA playoffs.

Griner is still detained in Russia after being taken into custody in February. Customs officials alleged they found vape cartridges that contained cannabis oil in her possession as she went through security at a Moscow-area airport.

In March, a Russian state-owned news agency TASS reported that Griner was expected to remain in custody until at least May 19. ESPN's T.J. Quinn also reported that month that Griner faces the possibility of being held in Russia for as many as 12 to 18 months before facing a trial, according to Tom Firestone, a former legal adviser for the U.S. embassy in Moscow. The 31-year-old faces a maximum of 10 years in prison if found guilty of illegally transporting narcotics, per ESPN.

The detention of the seven-time All-Star center comes during a time in which the diplomatic relationship between the United States and Russian governments is strained following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine that began on Feb. 24.

The U.S. and allied countries have levied sweeping sanctions against Russia in response to its attacks. While resident Joe Biden has said the U.S. won't be sending its military forces to assist Ukraine, the House of Representatives is set to vote Tuesday on a nearly $40 billion bill to deliver aid to Ukraine.

Simple.

The Suns (and the NBA) lost me years ago when (led by Steve Nash) they started getting political in coming out against Arizona’s attempts to control the border. Looks like my dumping of them was justified. They haven’t changed a bit.

I remember when Kevin Johnson dunked on Hakeem Olajuwon.

I wonder if she made any new friends while in prison. Those Russkie women prisoners could be pretty tough, I imagine.

Off topic, but I played against an NCAA two time All American NCAAW player. I got cut from high school that year.(I was 5’10” 155 at the time, she 6’2” roughly guessing155.)
I was tasked with guarding her. I absolutely dominated her.
The difference between a top level high school male and WNBA is comical.
I lost “my spot” to a 6’4” guard that transferred to Oak Hill Academy...

I remember when Barkley was still there and he choked against the Bulls.

Nash. That’s why I loved it when the Nets imploded in the playoffs. I’m sure the qualification by Trump-hater Durant is that if he will kneel down at every national anthem which this puke does.

Choke is a bit off. MJ is the greatest ever, and Pippen is the greatest second fiddle ever.

C'mon now, show them youngin's who don't even remember 1994 and when basketball was still good (not the blm shitshow it is now) what you're talkin' about here...

Neither KJ or Hakeem Olajuwon is likely to forget it.

Yep. The golden age of Basketball had so many truly great players like MJ, Scottie, Hakeem, KJ, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Barkley and that list just goes on and on.

When MJ retired (second time) I stopped watching and never really went back. I may catch glimpses of a game when I'm at a local pub with friends but that's about the extent of anything to do with the NBA as far as I'm concerned.

When the golden age of Basketball ended, so did my catching every single Bulls game. (And that was obviously long before this blm bullshit.)
