Joe Biden delivered remarks in honor of 'long time friend', 'good man' and former Vice President Walter Frederick 'Fritz' Mondale on Sunday in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
'I served with Fritz a long time. He became a good and close friend,' the president said during his remarks at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the University of Minnesota's campus at the memorial service for Mondale, who served as President Jimmy Carter's No. 2 for his single term from 1977-1981.
'I was a kid when I got elected – I wasn't even old enough to be sworn in – I was 29-years-old,' Biden said in reflecting on his friendship with Mondale.
Mondale died in April of last year at the age of 93.
Speaking before Biden was Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as well as the state's two Democratic Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith – who, as part of her remarks, shared a eulogy from former President Carter and Bill Clinton.
Following Klobuchar's remarks, the resident took the stage. He was followed by Mondale's sons Theodore and William.
Biden called Mondale by his nickname 'Fritz' and called him 'one of the great giants in American history.'

Joining the resident on his trip west is Democratic Minnesota Representatives Ilhan Omar and Dean Phillips, as well as Emeritus Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute Norm Ornstein and Canon Historian of the Washington National Cathedral Jon Meacham.

Teleprompter writers.
Between Brandon and Klobuchar, it was Wellstone redux.
I would enjoy dropping a runny deuce on Waltie's grave...
My favorite line from when Mon-dull ran as Jimmuh’s vp was - “Grits and Fritz give me the sh^ts”
Joe has been in the government as en “employee” for 50 years. He’s senile and can’t remember most things, needs a teleprompter and still can’t read it. Poor guy, he should be in an old folks home. I think it’s funny that his presidency is being undermined by Kamala whom is hated by her staff, and a woman who is older than him who can’t put together q complete sentence when speaking. The world must be perplexed at our poor government when the rest of the world is facing off with Russia
Conspicuous by her absence were Hillary and Bill Clinton!
Reagan won Mexico, Canada, Greenland, Cuba, Guatemala, etc?
Even more impressive than I remember!
Pretty cool map, eh?
Reagan won Greenland? No wonder folks were mad at Trump for offering to buy it since it was already ours.
The last weekend of the campaign in 84, Reagan was flying east coast to west and wanted to make a quick stop in Minnesota but his staff said it would make no difference. Minnesota returns were actually close and it’s possible that last stop could have made it a 50 state landslide.
Mondale also tried to destroy the space program. Imagine where our national defense would be.
He was a bland idiot.
A favorite little memory, Reagan did a train tour and was on a microphone reading from all his supporter’s signs as the train inched through a town.
One sign said “Mondale’s The One”. Reagan read it same as the rest, then realized and added “Like hell he is!”
“Joe Biden pays tribute to ‘longtime friend’ liberal icon Walter ‘Fritz’ Mondale and credits the late former vice president for bringing an office for the president’s No. 2 to the White House”
I guess that Jill with a pooper scooper wasn’t efficient enough...
Anyone else horrified that this man has been dead over a year before his remains were interred?
Many people have had their memorial service postponed because of covid. I would assume he was 7
Crwamated.
Lol
Cremated!
I sort of knew but it’s fun to act like the crazies on the left once in a while. By the way,I will accept either spelling of cremated.
If he had any real sense of manhood, any honor, he'd be home right now swingin' over the drain.
