Charles Barkley rips Nets, Kyrie Irving over his part-time status
NY Post ^ | January 8, 2022 | Mark W. Sanchez

From Kyrie Irving’s refusal to be vaccinated to the Nets relenting and allowing their point guard to return on a part-time basis, Charles Barkley has all sorts of problems with Brooklyn.

After Irving’s season debut in the Nets’ win in Indiana on Wednesday, the TNT analyst ripped both the star and team on Thursday for enabling this unconventional marriage.

“I have an issue with the entire thing,” Barkley said on “Inside the NBA.” “Kyrie is a heck of a player. But to only play in road games, I don’t think it is fair to the game, No. 1. But I think more importantly, I don’t think it is fair to the team.”

The Nets agreed through October, November and halfway through December, until the COVID-19 cases started spiking and more than half the team was in the health and safety protocols. They announced the unvaccinated Irving, who is not allowed to play in New York because of local vaccine mandates, could rejoin the squad so they could add an additional road player.

“I’m not even sure what [the Nets] realized,” Barkley said of their decision to cave to Irving. “They’re like, ‘We’re going to let you play in half the games.’ And I just have a problem with that personally.”

Barkley has personal issues with Irving’s choice not to be vaccinated — “which is silly and stupid” — and his unwillingness to do so for the good of the team.

“When you’re on a team, you have to make sacrifices for the team to win,” Barkley said.

I always take my health advice from morbidly obese people who have zero knowledge of medicine. Hey Charles get your fat ass to the gym and start eating healthy!

Oh yeah, Chuck, a 30 yr old professional in peak physical condition will likely be fine. Look at all the unvaccinated NFL players who got Covid and pulled thru fine. Chuck is a controlling dumbass...he himself doesn’t like being controlled but is always throwing his one cent on the mat about others.

I’m sure the reason Charles won so many championships is because of his austere lifestyle while playing.

Charles Barkley is right that you’re on the team, you’re either all in or out.

This one story captures the idiocy of the Branch Covidian hysteria perfectly. There’s plenty of criticism to go around, but Kyrie Irving doesn’t deserve any of it.

1. The Nets and the NBA should have told the NYC government to stick its vaccine mandate up its collective @sses. If NYC stood its ground, the team and league should have scheduled their home games at a different venue outside NYC for the season.

2. The Nets initially suspended Irving indefinitely because he couldn’t play in any home games, but then brought him onto the roster to play in road games because they had so many VACCINATED players sitting out due to positive COVID tests. That right there perfectly illustrates how ‘effing retarded these vaccine mandates are.

3. The Nets always had the option of trading Irving to a team that plays in America instead of in New York City. At least they would have gotten some value out of the situation.

4. Would someone please tell the NBA how stupid it looks to have players breathing and sweating all over each other on the floor during a game, then sitting on the bench wearing masks when they aren’t exerting themselves at all?

Irving is not making the Nets keep him on the team. When he signed his contract he wasn’t told that he would have to take a gene therapy shot.

They can drop him, trade him, or play him on non-California road games. His bodily integrity is more important that records and money. He’s allowed that.

Irving finished 2021 with the same DNA he started with. Charles did not.
