At least 45 dead when tour bus crashes, catches fire in Bulgaria

The bus apparently ripped through a guardrail on a highway, though authorities have said the cause is still under investigation. Photos taken shortly after the crash showed the vehicle engulfed in flames as plumes of thick, black smoke rose. Daylight revealed a burned-out shell with all of its windows blown out, sitting in the median. A portion of the guardrail was peeled away and lying in the road.

In 2019, Bulgaria had the second-highest road fatality rate in the 27-nation European Union, with 89 people killed per million, according to European Commission data.

β€œLet’s hope we learn lessons from this tragic incident and we can prevent such incidents in the future,” said Bulgarian Caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev, who also visited the crash site.

Albanian Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka wrote online that almost all of those who died were ethnic Albanians β€” but it was not clear if they were also residents or citizens of North Macedonia, which is home to a significant number of ethnic Albanians.

The fatality rate is reduced somewhat by the poor quality of the cars that spend more time in the shop than on the road. I'm sure you've heard of Fix It Again, Tony!

Looks a lot nicer than a Trabant. And slightly more reliable as well.

A European joke:

Hell: The cops are German, the cooks are English, the engineers are Italian.

Heaven: The cops are English, the cooks are Italian, the engineers are German.

"Must have been an electric bus." In Bulgaria? Doubtful. Sorry, let me restate that: ***WARNINING*** <<>> Persons not familiar with the figurative nature of the English Language should not attempt to understand the following statement.... "Must have been an electric bus." The preceding was "sarcasm", a form of figurative language. It may not be understood by people of low IQ, or people who speak English as a second language.

Well, my IQ is not low, and I am a native English speaker. Sarcasm poorly expressed may not be picked up by very many people regardless of intelligence or native language.

Aspergers maybe?
Or maybe your definition of “not low” is questionable.

I had a 1973 fiat 124 sport coupe. I LOVED it- zippy little 5 speed, boy it was fun to drive. But- like a typical fiat- it had quirks. I got to know them and my mechanic.
