In my senior year of High School in Bronxville, NY. I was packed in the Senior Lounge watching in utter disbelief the News of JFK's assassination.

If JFK were alive today the Democrats would denounce him as a fascist.

He was adamantly anti-communist, he was against ending the US moratorium on immigration, he wanted a strong national defense, he supported effective public education, he understood and implemented lower taxes, he opposed the establishment of a permanent welfare class, he opposed abortion, and he supported religious freedom.

Yup:”We will support *any* friend, oppose *any* foe...”
And: “Let *them* come to Berlin!”

My Dad had a bust of JFK in his office. But he voted for Nixon,Ford,Reagan...

I was in fifth grade and every year our little school took fifth-graders to the circus. We heard from the candy man that the President was riding in a car in the woods with the Veep and was shot. Weird. Then the ring master entered the center of the center ring and said, “May we have a moment of silence for our late President.” He took off his top hat, put it over his heart and bowed his head. The spotlight diminished to a small dot on his hat and then everything went dark. What did “late” mean? Our vocabulary grew that day. I am still there when I think of it.

Seventeen years later, my first son was born on that day. No one ever forgets his birthday.

I was 26 days away from being born, on Interstate 10 near Palm Springs in a 1962 Thunderbird.

I was 3 1/2 years old and was on my father’s shoulders about two blocks away. The cavalcade had passed us and we were back in our apartment when everybody outside started to scream. That is my first memory as a child.

“A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

John F. Kennedy

To answer the original question, I wasn’t even born yet. But was around when we reached the moon.

Trimming lettuce in the produce department of a supermarket in my hometown at the time. I will NEVER forget it.

I also remember where I was when Malcom X was killed. I was being shown how to play pool by a group of black guys while I was stationed in Germany. A young black GI slammed open the door and screamed what had happened and said he was going to go kill a white guy. Five seconds after he left the door opened and he said—”sorry Petey”. We all just continued to play pool as if nothing had happened.

I was about a week and a half away from being born.

My grandparents and great-parents were devout Catholics and strong Republicans who lived in rural Wisconsin - but they voted for Kennedy because they were awed at the idea of a Catholic president.

In second grade. I clearly remember us boys making bets if Connally would survive or not. Sounds pretty morbid but it’s exactly what happened.

5th grade, playing dodgeball at 12:50 in gym when a lady teacher came down stairs crying. Buses were pulling up to take everybody home way early. They acted as though a war was breaking out. All factories were shut down. I remember my dad telling my mum that they killed our president today. Do you remember Jackie screaming they killed my husband. She knew. All this covid and control reminds me of when they killed JFK.

"Sick? Sure. You can come clean now. You played hooky."

I felt nauseous when I woke up, but within an hour or two I felt fine. Later I sometimes wondered if I had a premonition of the assassination, but that's probably BS.

I was only one year old at the time so the event did not register with me at the time. But I sure heard a lot about it in years to come.

Respectfully....FR has to have the oldest base of users in the entire political comment world.

Sometimes its good though, but sometimes its bad. It’s almost like a lot of people spent the last 25 years here, starting in their 40s and 50s, but new people didn’t really come on board in meaningful numbers. So the average age keeps going up. I definitely feel much older than I was in 2001, with my original user name shortly after 9/11.

I still consider this the gold standard of discussion boards though. Even after my Opus a few years ago. LOL.
