He was adamantly anti-communist, he was against ending the US moratorium on immigration, he wanted a strong national defense, he supported effective public education, he understood and implemented lower taxes, he opposed the establishment of a permanent welfare class, he opposed abortion, and he supported religious freedom.

At the time, he was considered a moderate to moderate liberal. Today, he would be more conservative than Trump. He was for the gold standard too.This is back when Democrats loved America. Joke: If a Democrat from 1963 came forward to today, he would be a Conservative Republican. If a Democrat from today went back to the early 1960’s, they would be put in an asylum.
