There is no room for people to make mistakes anymore.
The world, as it has grown smaller due to the Internet, has become a very harsh and unforgiving place. If you were to have a bad day in the past, you had a chance at surviving it, keeping your job, and having a life. Now, everyone has the possibility of getting their "Fifteen Minutes of Fame", and not always in a good way.
It brings to mind an incident from a few years back. There was a snowstorm in Pennsylvania that caused flights in and out of the airport to be cancelled, so they put up the flight crew at a nearby motel which had a bar nearby they could drink at. It was a bitter cold February night, down near or below zero degrees.
Later that night, the local Fire Chief heard some noise in his garage, so he walked in and turned on a light. To his surprise, there was a completely naked young woman rummaging around in his truck looking for a flashlight.
She was completely hammered and nearly incomprehensible, so he called the police. When the police arrived, they managed to discern that she was a flight attendant, and had been over at the bar with the pilot, both had imbibed too much alcohol, and they had walked out into the woods to have sex. They had taken off their clothes, and the intoxicated pilot, now naked, had passed out in a snowbank. She tried to find her clothes so she could get some help, but found that not only could she not find her clothes, she couldn't find the naked pilot who had passed out in the snowbank. She managed to stagger out of the woods and came upon the Fire Chief's garage where she was discovered in her nakedness by the Fire Chief.
The police tried to get her to show them where the guy was before he froze to death while passed out in naked in that snowbank subzero only to find out she was so drunk and they had gone so far out into the large forest that she could not lead them back to the guy.
They had to use an army of volunteers, bloodhounds and helicopters with infrared equipment to find him before he froze to death. They did finally discover his unconscious, splayed and supine figure in the snowbank with his (and her) clothing nowhere in sight. He was still alive, and the couple had been a lot further into the woods than anyone imagined possible.
The whole thing, with the tawdryness and media exposure compelled the authorities to slap both of them with all kinds of charges ranging from lewd and lascivious behavior to felonious breaking and entering. The airline decided it had to punish them both by invoking "The 12 Hour Bottle to Throttle" rule (of which they were in obvious violation of) and thereby causing their employment to be terminated with the resultant story pasted nearly everywhere on the Internet (which basically means everywhere on earth) so now you are famous in a Twenty-First Century kind of way just because you were doing what comes naturally to humans, intensified by and lubricated with boredom, alcohol and lust...
Point is, in the past, this might have made the local papers, even the paper in the nearest large city, but the story would have likely died there, even though they still probably would have faced a variety of charges and been fired from the airline for violating the drinking guidelines.
Instead, they achieved an unwanted global fame for that terrible fifteen minutes. They had Chinese speaking people in Taiwan, Aussies down under, and citizens in Finland all reading the story and chuckling with glee that often accompanies stories of those caught in flagrante delicto, particularly a guy who, as the saying goes, "has his d**k caught in a vise" because of it.
Honestly. This 24 hour surveillance we are all under now makes me glad I grew up in a time where everyone didn't carry a video camera around with them or the means to send it to a global audience in a matter of seconds.
That is indeed a WILD story and misadventure! I’m sure it was talked about for months. That “Cool Loverman” was very lucky to be found in time. He should have a ‘survivor’ tattoo inked where he’ll always remember the episode.
It almost sounds like the kind of movie Burt Reynolds used to direct back in the 1980’s.

The confusion of pronouns, tenses, and verbs in this article suggest this article may have been written in a language other than English, translated to fifteen other tongues, including Ancient Egyptian Heiroglyphs, before winding up in Slinglish all while playing “Telephone” with the factual information. I almost got the impression the two people involved changed clothing in mid-encounter.
I can’t wait to see this written up on Reddit then posted by one of the readers on YouTube as “Karen Slaps A Submarine And Gets Nuked!”
As soon as Desjardins started yelling at Nolte, he should have moved through Jeff Cooper's color code from Yellow to Orange.
As soon as Desjardins started to hit him (Assault), Sean Nolte should have neutralized the threat.
No need to wait for her to complete the crime of Battery. He should have grabbed her right wrist and the hair on the back of her head and slammed her face first into a wall or the ground. Alternatively, he could have grabbed her right wrist with his left hand and driven the heel of his right hand up and into her nose, shattering it. In either case, one blow, over in less than 0.3 seconds, and a proportional response of self-defense to a threat of unknown intensity or duration.
It does not matter that Desjardins may have a pair of X-chromosomes or self-identify as some kind of female. It does not matter that she is older, overweight, and unfit. It does not matter if she is drunk, on drugs, or mentally impaired. The last three factors represent an increased threat and risk to Nolte. A civilized society requires that those who choose to initiate violence be IMMEDIATELY neutralized.

Thing is, in the past, you might have been able to move to Idaho and run a small aviation related business in relative anonymity. Now, someone will say “Hey, I’ve seen that name before” and do an Internet search, and all the sordid details are there for viewing!
Your method of neutralizing the threat would certainly work, but it sounds like Overkill x 2. To each his own method of survival, though.
