Well, it very well could be a tree well. Dangerous indeed. You fall into one and there is almost no way to get out on your own, especially if your skis didn’t detach or if you bonked your head on the way in.

So he was head down in the snow for an extended period of time until others dug him out. And all they know is that it had something to do with the snow? I hope that doctor Fauci can come to the rescue.
It might have something to with a strange phenomena known as suffocation that you can simulate at home by putting a plastic bag over your head. Who knows why he was unable to get his head out of the snow before he lost consciousness.
