Ohio State emphatically proves it belongs with 49-28 blowout of Clemson in Sugar Bowl playoff semifinal

Ohio State football proved it belonged, and will now attempt to show it stands alone.

The Buckeyes entered Friday’s Sugar Bowl against Clemson in search of a championship identity it had not yet seen on the field in 2020. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney questioned whether Ohio State should be allowed in the College Football Playoff after playing only six games. What had the obviously talented Buckeyes actually shown? Ohio State, and the rest of college football, now have evidence of that elusive, theoretical peak performance.

Justin Fields played with explosive efficiency that, with a few notable exceptions, has been the trademark of his Buckeye career. A rejuvenated Trey Sermon followed a dominant blocking performance to another huge rushing night. The Buckeye defense repeatedly turned Clemson back while the offense played its best first half of the season.

By its own admission, Ohio State needed to play its best game of the season to beat Clemson. By its own resolve, it did, rolling to a 49-28 victory in a College Football Playoff semifinal at the Sugar Bowl.

Yes, including (but not limited to) elections.

Six years ago was similar to this year. Nobody in the media wanted Ohio State in the playoffs, but they beat Alabama soundly in the semi and demolished Oregon in the final. Same kind of scenario shaping up this year.

The only people who want to see Ohio State in any playoff games are Buckeye fans. Everybody else hates them. Sometimes with good reason, but not always.

“ you don’t know the rule against targeting do you.”

Nope. What’s the rule?

Maybe this will help you understand the penalty better.

It is not a question of whether they were good enough. It was always a question of they did not play near as many games. The big 10 better never ever cry again about a team getting in playing 1 less game.

You mean the team that lost to Alabama by 28? You say ND did not deserve to be in and wanted Texas A&M who did not even make it as even conference runner up and lost to Alabama bad already.

Indiana got left out because bowls have conference affiliations and the Pac 12 bailed out of most bowls.

The Big 10 diddled and dawdled because of lockdown rules from Whitmer, DeWine, and Evers, (Michigan, Ohio, & Wisconsin governors). Stupid lockdowns. Stupid governors. Stupid commissioners. The Big Ten is lucky they even had any season at all.

The biggest problem won’t be Alabama, it’ll be the refs. Alabama is a slow team...their front line is wheezing by the start of the second quarter. OSU will wear them down then stomp on Mac Jones head.

The team that probably would have done well, was Oklahoma, but their slow start doomed them. They were playing as well as anyone at the end of the year.

Ok, read my assignment. Targeting wasn’t committed.

Does crown of helmet mean anything to you?

“ Does crown of helmet mean anything to you?”
************

Initial contact was not made with the helmet nor did the tackler, #47 I believe launch and leave his feet. It was a good hard legal tackle.

Please look at the video again. #47 clearly lead with the crown of his helmet.

https://fansided.com/2021/01/01/james-skalski-targeting-justin-fields-video/

He didn’t need to leave his feet for the foul to take place.

He violated Rule 9-1-3.

***Targeting and Making Forcible Contact With the Crown of the Helmet (Rule 9-1-3)

No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of his helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting. When in question, it is a foul.***

You can disagree with what should be an ejectable offense. Please file your complaints with the NCAA. As the rules are currently written, the Clemson player violated the targeting rule.

On top of that, this is not his first offense. He is a senior, and seriously should have changed his technique by now if he wanted to keep playing. Skalski let himself and his teammates down.

They still are if you have VPN and the internet.

EVERY single game was on free channels on our black & white TV.....

NOW-—ESPN/ABC/Disney has chosen to steal those bowl games from the American public. NOT everyone has Pay TV-—especially since so many persons are out of work.

May they rot in a future hell.

Clemson is in the ACC.

Not an OSU fan but it is always enjoyable to see the smug SEC get punched in the mouth as it doesn’t happen very often.

I believe it was the major that made the first mistake of thinking Clemson was in the SEC. What was funny was that dfw showed footage of Woody Hayes’ last game and it was against Clemson.
