New nightly pill to end snoring being tested in United States

If you’re one of the many millions of Americans who snores — or suffer from sharing a space with a partner, parent or roommate who does — a new drug entering clinical trials in the United States could be a slumber saver.

A 2018 study based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that a once-a-night tablet which combines two non-sleep related drugs, effectively reduced snoring frequency for 20 research volunteers by 74% — from an average of 28.5 breathing interruptions per hour to just 7.5.

Two years later, the remarkably simple — but potentially revolutionary — therapy is being put to the test in a clinical trial sponsored by Apnimed, a company formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts to market findings from that 2018 study.

My snoring is loud enough to wake people in the next zipcode. Loud enough to constantly wake myself... Been like that since my teen years but gotten a bit worse in the last 10 years.

A cure/remedy would be nice!

Or, I could become a weapon for the military and deprive the opposing soldiers of sleep in their foxholes.

Please get that addressed. It is surely responsible for health effects, by now. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, etc can directly stem from that.

If not for CPAP, I’d likely be dead by now. I’ve use a machine for about 10 years.

Have you tried an adjustable base and sleeping with your upper body up at an angle of 30 to 45 degrees? I can sleep on my side or back like that.

Or try the poor mans way which is putting pillows UNDER your mattress to prop it up at an angle or use a wedge pillow or two. That’s what I do when I travel and sleep in a hotel so I don’t keep ALL the guests up.

I started CPAP therapy about six months ago. I sleep better and feel better, but it’s such a struggle getting to sleep some nights. It can seem like hard work breathing, I just can’t seem to breath normally with the mask until I fall asleep. I also have sinuses that sometimes just close up, making breathing with or without a CPAP mask tough.

I have a 220 pound Cane Corso and his kennel is right outside house against my bedroom wall of my headboard. He snores so load that that it will wake you up.

He originally slept in our room but the snoring and farting all night was horrific.

Are using a nose-only mask?

Some people need a mask that allows them to breathe through the mouth.

Also, CPAP’s with humidifiers can help with the sinus congestion as well.

I suspect that my bride has often considered this in the week dark hours as a cure for my snoring.
