Broadway Will Remain Closed Through June 2021
Theatermania ^ | October 9, 2020 | David Gordon

Broadway's reopening date has been pushed to June 2021, the Broadway League has announced. Refunds and exchanges are now being extended through May 30, 2021, though the organization did not commit to an official return date for shows while the pandemic continues.

A number of shows have already moved opening dates to March and April, 2021— The Music Man with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, Plaza Suite with Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, among them — and all of them will have to be rescheduled again.

All New York venues went dark on March 12, 2020, and have remained so ever since.

RE: Broadway Will Remain Closed Through June 2021

Some questions:

1) Why June 2021?

2) What makes them so sure that things will be different by then? The virus is with us PERMANENTLY.

I am reminded of the scenes in “Escape from New York” in which the Broadway theater was full of derelict criminals and street thugs.

That is who will be left in NYC by next summer.

Yep. No one deserves this more than NYC. Wonder if they’ll ever understand the difference between Tyranny and Freedom? It’s not looking good. ;)

“The Broadway theatres (theaters in U.S. English) are located in the theatre (theater) district in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The musicals and theatrical performances (plays) that were performed in the 2017/18 season at the 40 professional theatres with more than 500 seats drew a total attendance of 13.79 million. The majority, 11.45 million or over 80 percent of the audience, attended musicals. In the 2017/18 season the gross revenue from Broadway shows in New York was at 1.7 billion U.S. dollars with over 1.44 billion U.S. dollars from musicals and about 180.43 million U.S. dollars from theatrical plays.”

Democrats want to make it so bad to 1) to show Republicans are helpless, and 2) make people think if they vote Democrat it will all go away. In other words, blackmailing the American People (extortion?) Pelosi is acting like a gangster.

Just dayum!

All those unemployed wannabee actors that lost their waiter jobs having their hopes and dreams crushed once again.

I see that the famed Stella Adler Acting studio now and for the foreseeable future only offers virtual works shops via zoom now...pity the penniless starving artistes.

Schadenfreude ;>)

I have only seen a handful of Broadway shows and that was very longtime ago and involuntary on my part (The Wiz and The Magic Show with school trips and Evita and Agnes of God with my parents). I recognize that there have been some plays in days gone by that are masterpieces of literature as well as musicals that are very entertaining and have produced memorable if not classic songs. That said, Broadway today seems to be a shadow of its former self. I cannot name a contemporary playwright and musicals are unlistenable and unoriginal. How long before Scooby-Doo or Gilligan’s Island are brought to Broadway?
