Back in 1999, the wife of an employee at my company was a patient at a local hospital. She was killed in an elevator accident when she was being transported from one floor to another. She was on a gurney that was being moved into an elevator and when it was only half way in, the elevator suddenly rose. She was caught between the car and the shaft wall.....

Sometimes when items are too big to fit completely in an elevator people will go upstairs to the next floor, force open the doors and place the large object on top of the elevator. This done in colleges a lot. This is probably what is meant when a guy implies that it's done all the time.

The traumatic asphyxiation may have to do with when the object complicated the cables and got stuck between floors, where she may have forced the door open between the floors, stuck her torso in to push a button to advance the carriage, and the down button accidentally got pushed, crushing her torso between the threshold and upper interior ceiling of the carriage.

Just my guess.

They were talking about this on 100.7 WZXL yesterday morning. It sounded like the elevator doors closed and the car descended crushing her between the floors. It also sounded as if she might have had certain body parts(arms) possibly detached from her body. Basically, a horrific accident. The building owners liability insurance policy will be maxed out.

So She survives Basic Alligator Training & Reptile Husbandry in Louisiana and ends up getting taken out by a Box and an Elevator!?!?!? Maybe She should have taken Mechanical Engineering 101 & an EMS/EMT Course... RIP
