On pornography, Russell Brand is right
The Unherd Daily ^ | Aug 2020 | Louise Perry

Posted on 09/03/2020 2:59:08 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Unusually, the conservative Ben Shapiro and the Left-wing Russell Brand are in the doghouse for exactly the same offence. Both men have been critical of a new music video by the American rappers Cardi B and Megan Three Stallion titled ‘WAP’, a track that takes an already sexualised art form and ramps it to 11, so much so that it has been the subject of fevered worldwide media coverage since its release ten days ago.

An incredulous Shapiro read out the lyrics during last week’s episode of his Daily Wire show...condemning the track as “vulgar” and insisting that it is representative of “what the feminist movement is all about..."

Brand’s take was quite different, although just as unpopular with fans of WAP. He suggested that the track and video were in fact anti-feminist...Brand asked a pertinent question “do women achieve equality by aspiring to and replicating the values that have been established by males?”

The clip that went viral on Twitter was just a couple of minutes long and didn’t include the most interesting part of Brand’s argument, in which he made an anti-capitalist point that deserves far more consideration than it has so far received. “That’s a product, what we’re looking at there” he said of the WAP video, and he’s quite right — this is a product that is not only hyper-sexual, but also hyper-capitalist, a fact that has been ignored by the other Leftist commentators who have been naively praising what was described in The Guardian as “an unabashed celebration of female sexuality.”

There is plenty else in the track to suggest a transactional attitude towards sex..."Pay my tuition” pleads Megan to this imagined man, who must “make it rain” if he wants her...favours. "Ask for a car."..."Let me tell you how I got this ring."

And yet the history of gold-diggers is as long and prodigious as the history of prostitution itself.

This song has been talked about a lot lately, but I hadn’t heard it (the genre isn’t my cup of tea), so I checked it out on youtube. This doesn’t violate youtube’s “community standards”?

Broadcaster Jean Shepherd used to call the rock and roll of the fifties and sixties, “pornography for teenagers.” I wonder what he would think of this?

Well, I won’t offer an intellectual critique of this, so I’ll just say it sucks. I imagine the kind of person who listens to this kind of stuff has already reached such a level of degeneracy and ruined tastes they wouldn’t be offended by this, or understand why anyone else would. Since her fanbase is probably teenaged girls, that should be a cause for concern.

Sorry.

I can’t take anything Russell Brand says seriously.

I just can’t.

“WAP” is essentially a modern-day minstrel show - the most vile and vulgar stereotypes about black women being wanton whores set to music - if you’d call it that.

Brand is basically saying what I always said, "There is nothing feminine about feminism."

Its a product of Capitalism, yes, but with the heavy lifting being done by libertarianism and moral relativism where God is not recognized for who He is..
This kind of poison is not tolerated in a free society where liberty and freedom are properly understood as choices between different “good choices” and not about license to do what is evil.

You can have it all baby. Just believe in yourself.

The capitalists are just responding to the demand.

Brand is far left in his general outlook but he’s quite honest about many things...kind of refreshing in a leftie...

Lardi B and Megan Thee Draft Horse aren’t exactly sex symbols - so whatever message they are trying to send isn’t going to have the impact they think. :)

Cardi B has clearly fallen for the luciferian/Illuminati trap, with the red bottoms, “bloody shoes” and this would certainly explain the sudden skyrocket success of a talentless former stripper.

Haha, “I didn’t understand what they were saying”.
I remember him most from Adam Sandler’s “Bedtime Stories” as the friend with night terrors.
