Pelosi recommends law to limit presidential pardon power

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said there should be a law to curb President Trump's pardon power.

During an interview with CNN host Anderson Cooper, Pelosi called Trump's commutation of former aide Roger Stone "appalling." The California Democrat also said she recommends passing a law that would prevent the president from exercising his constitutional power if the person being pardoned is politically connected to him.

"For the president to be able to issue a pardon on the basis of a crime that the person committed assisting the president is ridiculous, and there ought to be a law," Pelosi began. "And I’m recommending that we pass a law that presidents cannot issue a pardon if the crime that the person is in jail for is one that is caused by protecting the president, which this was. It’s appalling."

The power to pardon is an explicitly noted presidential power in Article II of the Constitution. "He shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment," the Constitution reads. To alter presidential pardon power would likely require an amendment to the Constitution itself.

I think there should be a law against people taking a dump on the curb. But, what do I know.

Pelosi recommends amendment to the Constitution.
Knows it will fail.

Democrats have no shame. No respect for the Constitution and their only desire is raw power. Evil personified.

Tell the dim witted Italian alien that it’s in the Constitution, a document no one in her family had anything to do with.

And it’s there because OUR ancestors understood that garbage like her exists and uses government to inflict injustices. Not hers, because her Roman ancestors epitomized the infliction of injustice...like the ultimate act on Golgotha.

Hey after the judges slam it down, I actually hope it happens someday and the democrats find it sucks. Just like they changed the judges to 50 votes.. They found out it’s no fun.

You can’t pass a law... you have to pass an amendment

Heh, according to the ignorant sl*t, only Democrat presidents can “pardon” real criminals (terrorists, etc) but REAL presidents (e.g., Trump) cannot pardon fake criminals screwed by corrupt Democrat prosecuters. (Nope, didn’t need to say corrupt Democrat since corrupt is implied).

What they need to do is move the politically charged trials out of DC. If they did that prosecutors would think twice before indicting.

It would require a constitutional amendment, since the power to parden crimes against the United States is in the Constitution and is a plenary power granted to the President. I’d honestly strengthen it so the President could pardon state and local “crimes” like defending yourself against knuckle-draggers. I’d also allow the President to vacate civil “judgments” (a.k.a. robbery by ambulance chaser). It would give a better check on the increasingly out of control judiciary. If the President abuses it, Congress can impeach.
