The number of earthquakes detected in Iceland has already increased to 9,000. The series of earthquakes began as scientists in the country reported signs of activity from Icelands most active volcano.
In its latest report, the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) noted that it had detected a total of 9,000 earthquakes as of June 29. According to the agency, the earthquake swarm began on June 19 in areas northeast of Siglufjörður, which is a fishing town located on the northern coast of Iceland. Three of the earthquakes detected by the agency had magnitudes of over five.
The earthquake swarm began on 19th of June, the IMO stated in a report. Around 9000 earthquakes have been detected, three of which measured greater than magnitude 5. The largest was on Sunday at 19:07 of M5.8 around 30 km [north northeast] of Siglufjörður. Other earthquakes above M5.0 were M5.6 and M5.4 and were located around 20 km [northeast] of Siglufjörður.
The IMO believes that more earthquakes are expected to occur in the region within the next couple of days or weeks.

*The earthquakes might have been caused by geothermal production
*The earthquake swarm could be related to Iceland's most active volcano
Iceland is a volcano
When the volcano goes, it will block the air routes to the UK, and cause global cooling all over the world...
Send for Greta!
There aren’t many flights in Europe to ground...and people are already wearing masks...so no big deal.
Gee, ya think? Iceland IS a volvano! Deployed there in the ‘80s and seemed like we had a noticeable quake at least once a day.
One a day is a lot less than 9,000 in less than 2 weeks.
Just saying..
Volcano about to go boom?
Why do they call it “mysterious”?
Just because the science of predicting earthquakes is in its infancy?
Iceland sits smack in the middle between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate, right at the north end of the Mid-Atlantic ridge in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
There is a spot in/on Iceland where you can stand with one foot in Europe and one foot in North America. The active seismic forces at such a spot as Iceland must be naturally very great, not mysterious.
There are about 130 volcanoes in Iceland, active and inactive. Thirty active volcanic systems can be found under the island.
That there could be swarms of earthquakes on Iceland is not a mystery no matter how often or rarely such swarms occur.
It's much worse than that. Iceland sits on top of a "hot spot," volcanic plume similar to the one that powers Yellowstone. It's also directly on top of the boundary of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. When it comes to scary real estate, Iceland would be the last place on Earth where I'd consider living.
I hear you.
If it bleeds it leads. I thought 9,000 in less than two weeks in an astounding number. I’ve never lived in an active seismic area however. YMMV.
There’s been a lot if quakes here in eastern California lately. And the full moon is coming. I know that scientists say there is no connection between the full or new moon and earthquakes but....
They should have sold to Trump when they had the chance. The price is lower now. And if the volcano adds land we get more acreage.
Is it possible that one of Iceland’s many active volcanoes is about to erupt? The one that everyone has to monitor closely is Katla, a volcano capable of a VEI 5 eruption. That big of an eruption could cause much colder than normal winters in the Northern Hemispehre.
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Iceland. Lots of eugenicists there. And people who claim to believe in fairies.
Actually, Iceland is a volcano on top of a bunch of other volcano's and occasionally volcano's go off.
