Freeper mabarker1s grandson dunked her iphone6s in water and its now non-functional.
She has lots of family photos and other unbacked-up data that may be unretrievable. Any ideas that have worked for you fellow Freepers would be appreciated.
Dunk grandson in water.
Next find out if the iPhone was backing up to the iCloud or to her computer. The classic plunge iPhone in bag of dry rice, leave it there for several days and pray technique also has merit.
Have a repairman open it up to get all the moisture out. Good luck from there.
Put it in a ziplock bag with a couple of cups of uncooked rice overnight. May help dry it out.
I’ve had some success with electrical devices using 99% rubbing alcohol. But unless you have some in the house already you are out of luck.
I just revived a walkie-talkie that I had left by the coffee pot and the coffee pot must have spilled over a bit and it was sitting in a puddle of coffee. It would turn on but the buttons didn’t work and the screen display was screwy.
Dripped some 99% alcohol into the various buttons and by the screen and let sit overnight. Was better, but still not functional. Did it again, and now it works!
Its almost certain that its all backed up on the cloud. When Grandma buys a new phone and enters her Apple ID and password it should all reappear.
About the only “solution” I’ve ever heard anyone having actual success with involves making sure phone is powered down immediately, then dry as well as possible with a hair dryer on low heat - then stick in a ziplock with dry rice for a few days (or a desiccant if you have access to it).
Beyond that - not sure of any hope.
