A University of Alberta professor has lost an administrative role in the anthropology department because of complaints that her views on gender were making people feel unsafe.
Kathleen Lowrey, an associate professor of anthropology in the Faculty of Arts, was also serving as the undergraduate programs chair. But, at a series of meetings held during the spring, she says she was pressured to resign from that role for what she believes are her views on gender, and when she refused to do so, she was relieved of the position. She will vacate the chair role on July 1st.
The role, an administrative one, includes duties such as chairing a committee about courses, approving transfer credits and running a special seminar for honours students in the department.
Lowrey says she was told in meetings that complaints, made to the dean of students and the university’s Office of Safe Disclosure and Human Rights, were that her views on feminism were making students feel unsafe and there were concerns this was driving students away from choosing anthropology as a major. She doesn’t know exactly the nature of the complaints — or who made them — because they were made informally and anonymously, she said.
“My chair was hoping that for the good of the department I would resign from my position.”
She said she was also told she had been discouraging students from organizing Pride events, which she denies. It was this claim which led her to conclude the complaints centred around her views on gender.
Following a subsequent meeting with the dean of the faculty, she received a letter saying she couldn’t effectively continue in the role and her leaving would be in the best interests of the department.

She’s going to have to answer for this in every interview if she ever wants another position related to her field.

How many anthropologists does the world need? Can it justify an anthropology department in EVERY univerily?
I remember 20 years ago an anthropology professor referred drily to this as the “Left-er Than Thou” game.
These politically correct “rules” are only ever enforced on those that are not ideologically orthodox leftists. As an example; if you live in place experiencing rioting, looting, arson, and murders, “feeling unsafe” makes you a racist. In this case a professor is forced out of her job for complaints that might not even actually exist. Ultimately she espoused an heretic viewpoint and was exiled for it.
There are people right now being forced to resign, getting fired, losing sponsorships, or otherwise being cancelled not just for speaking out against the absurd hypocrisy of BLM (and enablers) but for not offering them enough submission. Can you imagine someone getting fired for being a BLM supporter?
They have free speech and no one else does.

It’s because she’s a Terfer like JK Rowling. She has this silly belief that men who become women aren’t “real” women (although she completely supports transgenders otherwise. It’s not “enough” because yknow the science is settled)
