OUR CONSTITUTION VERSUS THE LAMP POST
Vanity- Seattle Times ^ | 5/21/2020 | windhover

The French have a saying that has its origin and meaning in revolution: "We obey tyrants until we hang them from lamp posts". Later-on the Guillotine was invented to carry out this principle more effectively.

Fortunately, in America we have an option to the annihilation of tyranny by lamp post. We have the Constitution of the United States of America that guarantees our freedom, the right to live, equality under the law, the separation of powers, and elections to throw the tyrants out.

Every would-be despot in our Country today (and there are many) who would marginalize, ridicule, and destroy this document of sacred principles should be very, very glad these Constitutional options exist.

There is an anger growing in America today; a deep and swelling resentment of the chastening autocratic actions and language of our authorities denying tens of millions of Americans their God endowed right to earn a living as they choose, to worship as they see fit, to fulfill their dreams and build a free and powerful civilization.

No! It is not for an elitist class and caste system, or person to rule over Americans as they believe best for us. We are not your children! You are not our parents! Get over it.

It has always been for our People to exercise their liberty as strong and free adults; reaping the benefits of our enterprise when we were right and the consequences when we were not. But these were our decisions, not the paternalism of a self-justifying benevolent despot, or worse, a small power hungry narcissist living-out their control fantasies - because they can.

Now the Country, including all our neighborhoods and families are threatened by a far greater menace than the Corona virus. It is the tyranny of a partisan media driven fear that we must not find the courage to reopen our society and businesses again without government approval. That we are no longer able to make that decision as a free People.

This is the greatest and most dangerous predatory tyrant of all; the viciousness of self-doubt and a fear that we are incapable of governing ourselves.

This tyrant we must take to the "Lamp post" and hang until all its viciousness an self-loathing no longer has breath. We are Americans. We do not cower in fear of danger or the hatred and injustice of oppression brought upon us.

We seek only to live our our God given freedom in peace, but we will finish any fight that would rob us of our Liberty bought by generations before us and paid-for in American blood.

We will love our Country in the actions our Constitution blesses and requires of us. We will not be "Fundamentally Transformed".

“Fortunately, in America we have an option to the annihilation of tyranny by lamp post. We have the Constitution “

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use the former from time to time as well.

Thomas Jefferson did write that: “From time to time the tree of Liberty must be refreshed by the blood of Patriots and tyrants”. We swear to the Constitution not men and claim our God given authority to remove them when they over reach their limited power. Civil disobedience and/or free and fair elections leave fewer scars, but did not eliminate the Founders need for the second amendment.

I'd rather die on my feet, than live on my knees.

My family has sent our members to every war we had since WWI. Not living on our knees is a family tradition.

This panic is just politics.

Correction. These Constitutional guarantees guarantee nothing if the Government fails prosecute any and all persons and organizations whenever sufficient evidence suggests that their actions have violated those guarantees.
