Schumer says he's focused on job when asked about possible Ocasio-Cortez primary challenge

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Sunday when asked about a potential primary challenge from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) that he’s focused on his job.

“Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez this week did not rule out a possible 2022 primary run against you,” CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Schumer on "State of the Union," referencing the representative’s interview with Politico Playbook last week. “Are you confident you could beat her?”

“Look, throughout my career, I have done my job. I'm totally focused on this COVID. We are the epicenter,” Schumer responded, referring to his home state.

Asked by Politico if she would run a primary campaign against Schumer in 2022, Ocasio-Cortez maintained that she is focused on her House reelection campaign.

“I’m very much focused on my election in 2020, and honestly this news cycle is so insane, who knows where any of us are going to be in 2022?” she said.

AOC’s just honest about it.

She’s not going to take on Schumer. Some friendlies will do polling for her and let her know she’d be clobbered statewide. She’ll just float it to milk some publicity.

Are you sure? If she can win the primary, she’d have a fighting chance, and I’m not so sure that she would stand no chance in the primary. Schumer is up there in age, which has advantages and disadvantages.

Chuckie’s had the backing of the New York political machine since he was a state senator. No little flash-in-the-pan, Socialist pipsqueak airhead is gonna unseat him as long as he delivers the goods to thems who are working the levers behind the curtains.

Chuckie the sleazebag has been around way too long. If I lived in NY I’d surely vote against him. The Dem guy that AOC beat was also in the machine as I recollect. There is no hope for NYC.

Yes. Statewide, we are talking about Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany. We are people who WANT Amazon to open up a headquarters in their area. Yes, they are still Democrats, but rational compared to the ones in the city. Ithaca and maybe some of the Rochester lesbos would vote for her, but the government workers and labor unions will go for Schumer.

It’s no sure thing she could even win a primary in her own district again

It would be poetic justice for the Shumck to take a big defeat right up the poop chute with AOC stomping his treasonous criminal azz.

I’d rather jump in an active volcano than vote for Chuck You, but AOC is such a lightweight, Schumer would eat her for lunch.

It’s not AOC Schumer needs to worry about. It’s the people backing her. If Schumer isn’t careful, he could be primaried out due to over confidence as was AOC last opponent. AOC is an avatar of something dangerous. Someone needs to dig it out.

TCOs need the cover of the cities to survive and intimidated peasants to carry the goods. They don’t like to take the risks if they don’t have too. People are not traveling to the drug dens and maybe that don’t want the users to to to infect them with covid. they likely don’t want to deliver as they can get caught with the drugs. The dealers are likely having their underage stooges carry the drugs to strung out users putting the carriers at risk. Any Low level gang member should be careful what they wish for.

Sorry, I switched from a different post to yours. Discussing drug dealers and politicians are the nearly the same job of destroying people’s lives with false claims of nirvana for one and all.

99% of my actual experience in New York was in Ithaca, which colours my picture.

I’m sure she’d loose upstate, with the exception of Tompkins county, but I imagine that at least 70% of the Dem primary votes are downstate, so loosing upstate is by no means the end of the world.

I’ve heard speculation to that effect, but this year will tell. If she does win, and win comfortably, I wouldn’t rule out her taking a shot at the primary.
