Coughing, sneezing, runny nose, congestion, body aches, chills—obviously, you know you’re under the weather when symptoms like these appear, but how can you tell which storm it is?

Certain signs could point to the common cold or flu, while others may be more serious and present as early signs of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus. Even more confusing as we head into spring? Some might simply be an indication of seasonal allergies. Here, a doctor explains how to figure out what your body may be dealing with.

Allergies: runny nose + itchy eyes
Welcome to spring, and its many sources of potential allergens, including budding trees, grasses, and pollen.

**SNIP**

Flu: body aches
Despite coronavirus getting the most attention (and rightfully so), keep in mind that flu season is still in swing.

**SNIP**

Coronavirus: fever + cough + shortness of breath

I do too. I have allergies, which makes my sinuses drain. At night they drain down the back of my throat and then I wind up coughing it up all the next morning. Drives me crazy for a few weeks every spring.

Shortness of breath should be the takeaway. Some people with serious pre-existing conditions will not get a fever but will actually drop in temperature.

“Many of these patients are being treated with quinolones and Zithromax. In a few days physicians will know if this treatment, as hoped, will prevent these patients from going into respiratory failure, going to the ICU and dying.”

It’s great to hear that even in NYC the doctors aren’t waiting on the MSM and FDA approvals to try novel treatments. If China had allowed its medical professionals to communicate with the world when this started we’d be way ahead on this.

Thanks. I was quite proud of myself when I thought of that one because it works perfectly in the conversation and as a reference :)

“And common sense ain’t so common. I think your friends need to stop watching cnn.”

Me too. If only they would. Add ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and Fox to the list.

Same with my 16 y.o. son, twice a year, spring and fall. About a week or two with cough and congestion. Zyrtec seems to help a little.

That pic must be a “Goodfellas” reunion. She played Ray Liotta’s girlfriend in the last third of the movie.
