Let's face it. No matter what the President does about the Corona virus the Democrats and their "news" lackeys are not going to be positive about it.
Something has been puzzling me though about this response. He seems to be schizophrenic about it. In his news conferences and whenever his corona team presents information they are straight forward with the danger and potential impact on the virus. For weeks President Trump has said that nothing is off the table when it comes to meeting the challenge. And yet for quite a while he seemed to be minimizing the threat via his tweets.
Strange. It's evident from what's happened in every other country that this virus is a direct threat not only to the health and safety of the citizens but also to our healthcare system. The virus is highly infectious and it causes severe to critical symptoms in about 20% of those who contract. That means they need medical care of some kind with probably at least 10% needing hospitalization and 5% needing icu. The corona team led by VP Pence has stated this repeatedly. President Trump himself apparnetly knew the danger long ago...remember his quarantines of Wuhan travelers and the first cruise ships? Government imposed quarantines had not been done in the modern age. It makes no sense that he would try to minimize the threat.
And now we come to Rush Limbaugh. I have been getting pissed at Rush because whenever I tune in he TOO seems to be minimizing the virus. He, like Trump, constantly compares it the flu. Rush HAS to know that this is not the flu. He had VP Pence IN HIS STUDIO less than a week ago. Pence HAD to give him the real story. He was also at the State of the Union as a guest of the President and sat right next to Melania. There is no way Rush could NOT know the truth.
So what gives? This must be a purposeful strategy.
Let's look at it this way. Every single country has essentially needed to shutdown their country to try and negate this virus. Nobody has been successful in stopping the virus from getting into their country. The President and his team have to know this. They're not in denial. They have all the resources of the federal government. Therefore they must have come to the conclusion months ago that a complete shutdown was their only option in the long run.
So how could they implement that? They could have called out the national guard, declared a national emergency and sent out the National guard to enforce. Or they could have asked people to voluntarily self quarantine. It's obvious that either one of these strategies was full of problems. Declaring martial law would have caused huge problems politically. Nobody would have recognized the threat. Same with voluntary. Nobody would have recognized the threat. There would have been mass panic. Or there would have been mass denial. Or there would have been mass non-compliance. More likely there would be a combination of it.
Here's the thing: Since it obviously can't be stopped and there's no vaccine and there's no acquired immunity then our best bet in the short term is for people to acquire the virus. We want people to get the virus. BUT we don't want a whole bunch of people to get the virus at the same time. That's a REALLY deadly scenario because not only would many corona victims die but so would those with other problems who wouldn't be able to get treatment.
So the challenge was to get to total shutdown without causing mass panic AND letting as many people get infected as fast as possible without letting too many people get infected. A huge challenge. So what do you do?
Ask Rush Limbaugh to minimize this even though he knows it's a threat. I don't care what you say Rush is a huge influence. If he keeps using terms like "hoax" and basically says it's a nothing burger political attack on President Trump there are many who will believe that.
And so what will happen? Exactly what has happened. People are coming to the reality of the situation in waves and avoiding panic and store runs. Those who have followed this closely prepared long ago. Those who came on board later then prepared. Those who believe it is a hoax will come on board very soon.
Within the last week we have seen virtually all public gatherings soft banned. Schools and colleges have closed. I think the fedgov has been coordinating it all. They've been working behind the scenes and telling states that they must do this...but to avoid panic do it so it looks voluntary by companies, sports leagues, states, etc. etc. This way the virus can spread BUT at a slower rate thus ensuring the preservation of our healthcare system.
This is "flattening the curve". Somebody has been posting a great graph on this and post it again. I believe that President Trump has been following this strategy. And he is doing the absolute best he can with the hand he's been dealt.
Here's my prediction: Starting Monday Rush and President Trump will change their tone completely. Rush especially will acknowledge the threat and shift toward optimism about getting through it and working together to defeat it.
Myself? I'm confident that there will be some short term pain. But thank God President Trump got the economy so strong before this hit. In the end we'll recover from this. In the meantime though we have to do all we can to NOT let it spread quickly. Self quarantine. Self isolate. Let it infect people slowly so we can handle the medical crush and save more lives.

I was just thinking about that too. Unless Pence and Trump both get it and both are incapacitated or die at the exact same time you can bet they already have a short list of vp candidates and that number 1 has already been notified. No rat will get close.

Me too. He set the stage with the address to the nation. That got people to pay attention. He does the national emergency just before the weekend to blunt the panic thing a bit. It will take a couple of days for it to penetrate that way.
Looks like markets have been going up since the announcement so hopefully that means they’re factoring it in.

Still, I also think that's what Rush has been saying all this week.
Now, he is pissed how the media and democrats (but I repeat myself) are making political hay on this, and is spending a lot of time on it.
After all, Rush's show is mainly about POLITICS, not medicine, so he concentrates on politics.
I really haven't heard him say the Coronavirus is nothing. Rather, he's on top of the shameful political side of it.
I don't know...I can't listen anymore without yelling at the radio.
I believe PDJT will up the ante every time the progs blab something even dumber that what they were blabbing the day before.
He could push provisions of a NE to the point where the progs will be begging for him to back off or accuse him of tampering in the election.

So you are the one person on the planet that knows exactly how many people have it? Because that is the only way you could say that 20% have critical symptoms. Trump is getting serious only to humor the ‘sky is falling’ crowd. You. That was a headache inducing read.
Dems are complaining that Trump isn’t “leading”, in other words, that he hasn’t been a “dictator”.
After all of the whining they’ve done all these years complaning that he’s a “dictator”.

What makes me mad is the Democrats aren’t putting any of their divisiveness aside in this crisis. They’re attacking the president with even more nastiness, and Pelosi isn’t letting this crisis step in the way of her trying to load Democrat pork projects on the coronavirus spending bill. This all smells of a nefarious and coordinated effort by the Deep State. I never thought of myself as much of a conspiracy type until lately, but when I see that the Democrats and the media are gleeful over a potentially bad situation and are openly talking about how this virus could help defeat the president in November, it makes me wonder what sh*t are they up to.
I pray for the health of both Rush and President Trump and Vice President Pence and Mitch McConnell. The latter three will no doubt have a hefty job of replacing a LOT of court judges after this thing is over.
I never watch the msm so maybe that's the issue. But it seems that Rush in his Rush to condemn the left often wanders into the area of minimizing the virus.
