What a Heart...!!!!
Jason Howerton @jason_howerton ·
If you're an elderly person in the DFW area and you're scared and in need of groceries or supplies, DM me.
In fact, I wonder if any of my young healthy DFW friends would be interested in forming a coalition to serve our community?

That sounds like a great idea. But I am in northern Michigan.
Great idea. We have used a “gro getter” for my elderly mom for several months.
Meals on Wheels is adapting by delivering meals without contact such as handshakes or hugs, distance keeping.
It sounds like a great idea, but who knows if they’ve either got the flu or this and they start doing this, and a few days later they start feeling off. All those folks the past week got exposed then.
If anyone does this, the best way is to leave the groceries on the doorstep, and have the folks like leave payment either through paypal, or put it in the mailbox or in betwen the storm door and house door when the person is coming over. A No-Contact dropoff is the safest.
I thought that it’s illegal for anyone but P.O. employees to deposit anything in a mailbox.
Blessings to this person (is this you?)
What a wonderful idea.
We need more of this, all across our country.
Maybe a good way is to go through local churches.
They can set up a hotline, and the congregation (and community) can answer the needs list.
Did you read?
I said for the elderly couple to put money in an envelope in their mailbox once they know the person is coming with the groceries. Or in between their storm door/outside door area.
YOU can put whatever you want in your own mailbox. YOU can use it as a drop box if you arrange it with another person. Its your mailbox.
The only consideration would be to pick a time well away from regular mail delivery to avoid a confusing situation.
That could work. But only if its no-contact dropoffs.
Yep.
Many options on how to set up/follow through...without having contact.
I don’t know what I was thinking when I typed that lol.
:0 lol
Big mitzvah, blessings on you.
I saw this on Twitter last night. I could not sleep after hearing about the elderly woman in my hometown of Montclair NJ standing in the parking lot of the food store asking people if they would go in the store and shop for her because she was scared! It broke my heart!
So I lay awake thinking what I could do. I am on lockdown due to age and underlying health issue but I can organize!
I will contact our towns senior resource person and see if I can start a phone chain and try to enlist others to join. I also thought about the churches and our VFW and American Legion.
I am going post on our local FB page and enlist some of the younger crowd (30-45 year old bracket) to possibly shop for needed items for elderly people who cannot go out due to Chinese coronavirus. I can have a command center from home!
My fear is having someone with bad intentions who may take advantage. I have to iron out that issue.
