How did the political left squander the opportunity that was the 2020 primary campaign?
The Trump presidency has created tremendous energy among progressives. More than half of Democratic voters now identify as liberal. Most favor “Medicare for all.” A growing number are unhappy with American capitalism.
This year’s campaign offered the prospect of transformational change, with a Democratic nominee who was more liberal than any in more than a half-century. Instead, the nominee now seems likely to be a moderate white grandfather who first ran for president more than 30 years ago and whose campaign promises a return to normalcy.

You can see this pattern today in the ways that many progressive activists misread public opinion. Their answer to almost every question of political strategy is to insist that Americans are a profoundly progressive people who haven’t yet been inspired to vote the way they think. The way to win, these progressives claim, is to go left, always.
Immigration? Most Americans want more of it. Abortion? This is a pro-choice country. Fracking? People now understand its downsides. Strict gun control? Affirmative action? A wealth tax? Free college? Medicare for all? Widely available marijuana? Americans want it all, activists claim.

This worldview won’t take them far.
Biden is about as “moderate” as Ceausescu.
They got gay marriage, and punishment for anyone who disagrees. They have total transgender acceptance, and punishment for those who disagree. They have socialized medicine. They have 100% abortion. They have P.C. culture enforced, with cancellation. They have climate change legitimized, and anyone who disagrees is considered a denialist. They have illegal immigration acceptance. And they have all of the above enforced by big business.

The only reason Hillary lost in 2016 is because she did not get her core voters to the polls in three upper Midwest states.
In the last 4 years, Trump has naturalized 3 million new immigrant citizens.
They vote 80% Democrat.
In the last 4 years, 16 million kids turned 18.
50% of them are non-white.
Non-white kids vote 80% Democrat.
In 2020, if the Democrats figure out how to get their core voters to the polls, Trump and the GOP Senate are in deep, deep trouble.
There have always been people like that.
I figure the people that gave Jesus so much grief were exactly like that.
They do to us exactly the things they did to him and his followers.
They do it to his followers even today.

Good post. I’m kinda amazed the dems aren’t going to run a racial minority candidate to whip up minority turnout. Probably the difference in black turnout alone between Obama and Hillary would have won her the 2016 election.

None of them were even remotely inspiring to the liberals. None of them had anything new to say. It was all ME TOO.
NYT unhappy leftists like Comrade Bernie keep losing ... their solution? quit telling the truth ... look at the polls on the issues and figure out how much you should be lying and how much of the truth you can get away with without losing ... pretty much the way Dems ALWAYS used to win ...

You have only noticed the last 20 because conservatives started to have a voice a bit over 20 years ago.
Before that, they did not have a voice.
Having a voice was the start to resistance and a start to winning.

He won a landslide reelection in 1984.
They aren’t going to run Hillary again in my opinion. I think maybe some minority vice pres taking over from Biden early in his term would be the unspoken understanding. Maybe he gets the nomination, takes the campaign heat and makes the gaffs, and then some weird choice takes over from him a few weeks before the general and is hailed as the perfect political saviour.

The Democrats will stop losing when they stop nominating perennial losers.

Hate to say it but you are 100% correct.
If there is over-confidence, it is on our side this year.
I see it not only on FR but with like minded friends.
I tell them “nothing is a given” and for them to get out there and vote this November. I know my state of NH is a lost cause, all we can hope for up here is to keep our Governor in the capital.
Reagan is the exception that proves the rule.
Much like Donald Trump, he realized the Media was the enemy.
He worked to get around the Media, and had some success; he won the Cold war.
Reagan, like Trump, was a complete surprise to the deep state. He was supposed to lose.
Reagans appointments to the Supreme Court were the start of an Orignialist Court today. Still, the left was able to stop Bork. The left was able to get a ban on any more manufacture of machineguns into the reforms of the gun owners protection act of 1986. The left was able to stop serious dimminishment of illegal immigration after they got amnesty.
Affirmitive action kept getting worse and worse.
The universities kept getting more and more left.
Conservatives, in general, still did not understand the enemy was the media, until after the election of 1994.
It’s like both sides are being set up to not believe the results of this election. The confidence on both sides seems pretty darned high to me. Maybe the dems showed some cracks in their confidence due to that awful menagerie of nominees they fielded.

And they own every institution, big businesses and the propaganda organs.
The only way they could win more is if they started putting us in a gulag.
In the culture war they have absolutely routed us, and we folded without even a whimper.
