> Where do I find the UAC (User Account Control) settings with the Local Group Policy Editor?

I think it's the line shown in the second image in the article.

You have lots of company.

> People can always hold down the power button until the lights go out... it’s not good for your computer, but well, it’s a 7...

One of the best reasons for taking complete, regular backups is that from time to time, you might have to hold down that button, and occasionally it results in an unbootable system.

it would not be surprising to see increasing numbers of mysterious issues with Windows 7 as they try desperately to get you to migrate to W10

I’ve gone thru User Accounts in the CP.
I’ve searched for UAC (User Account Control).
I’ve searched for Local Group Policy Editor.
I’ve searched for Adobe Genuine Monitor Service.
Nothing comes up of any such paths of folders.
Still trying...

What version of Windows 7 do you have? Home, Pro, etc.?

Didn’t realize it still had that kind of footprint.

It was a good OS. Very stable.

In the beginning Win10 was pain to upgrade to so many people just didn't.

Never had that problem but I always turn my wi-fi connection off before I close down the system. I started doing it with the store system as a security precaution and kept it up at home.

Finally found it:

Control Panel —> Administrative Tools —> Local Security Policy —> Security Options —> Scroll down to near bottom on r/s pane.

"I run XP. Never had a problem."

Good for you. My WIN 3.1 installation is still going strong. Fortunately I can still buy 5.25" floppies from eBay when the old ones get too scored on the root sectors.

Of course, my video-streaming experience leaves a lot to be desired, over the 2400 baud modem connection to my CompuServe account. I'm thinking of asking for a 9600 baud modem for this next Christmas. Hot damn! Blazing speed for me, and hang the cost!

I just bought a new laptop that came with 10 Home that I upgraded to 10 Pro.
Regadless, it still sucks .. damned cartoon menus, that silly Cortana chick, etc.

Am currently debating whether to wipe 10 and install 7 Ultimate or Pro.
Have Ultimate or Pro running on all the other boxes on my home net.

Added a 2nd ssd to the lappy, so might install 7 on it and dual boot.
I REALLY wish MS hadn’t f’d with 7 !

Don’t care as long as MS doen’t try that with W98... I have two physical machines that still start & shut down just fine... As well as two VM machines on my W8.1 laptop that are still humping along (when I beckon to them)...
