Ricky Gervais Opens Golden Globes By Telling Woke Hollywood To Skip The Lectures
Deadline ^ | January 5, 2020 | Greg Evans

Felicity Huffman, Cats, Joe Pesci, the Catholic Church, Judi Dench and James Corden got the Ricky Gervais treatment during the opening monologue of tonight’s Golden Globe Awards, but none took the brunt of the host’s jibes quite as sharply as Hollywood itself.

Casting the industry town as hypocritically woke – with a Jeffrey Epstein joke thrown in for good measure – the notoriously scathing British comic advised Golden Globe winners to skip the moralizing. Said Gervais, “Thank your agent and your God and…” The rest was bleeped, but he seemed to say something along the lines of “then get the [expletive] off the stage.”

“You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything,” Gervais cautioned. “Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”

Apple TV’s woke The Morning Show, Gervais said, was “made by a company that runs sweat shops in China.”

Individual stars didn’t get through the opening monologue completely unscathed, if none were as skewered quite so efficiently as Gervais’ former punching bag Mel Gibson. Felicity Huffman, Gervais said, made the license plate on his car, Joe Pesci looks like Baby Yoda

Phoenix was bombed out of his skull. Cocaine and alcohol, I would say.

“What the foke does “woke” mean?”

Just one of many similar definitions;

The act of being very pretentious about how much you care about a social issue

The other “Edgy” actors who played the Joker got trashed on drug binges in prep for the role as well.

My son and I were discussing the fact that The Irishman got no awards tonite. We think they were scared to give the film any awards for fear that DeNiro would take over the mike and ruin the whole night for everyone and tomorrow that’s all the press would be talking about. Just our theory.

aybe. It was a trrrible film. The basis of it was a hoax.

I don’t believe one word of this man who said he killed Jimmy Hoffa.

He was a thief, a liar, and a killer. Typical Mafia.

It was so absurd for DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci, etc. to pretend to be men half their age.

Why couldn’t they let young actors play the first half of the film, and then morph these old farts into the second half?

It did ‘t get awards because it stinks on hot ice.

>> I thought he was a dickweed. No? <<

I don't think Gervais is remotely conservative. His recent history includes campaigning for Jeremy Corbyn in the 2017 UK election and being an outspoken supporter of atheism (he won the "Richard Dawkins Award"... sounds like a parody but apparently some atheist group has such an "award") and is known for loudly promoting gay marriage.

Most likely he is simply an ANTI-SJW liberal. Such creatures exist. In fact, I would venture to say that only about 15-20% of people who politically liberal ARE also SJWs. Most of them privately think the SJW antics are ridiculous, but say nothing because they afraid to speak out against the SJWs and offend their fellow virtue-signaling leftists and end up on the $hit list of fellow socialists. Gervais has NO such qualms, obviously.

I've seen other examples, though usually nowhere near as bombastic as Gervais.

For example, I'd say Mel Brooks fits the category. By all accounts he is an across-the-board liberal and probably votes straight Democrat, but he wants nothing to do with ridiculous SJW antics and is as politically incorrect as it gets and never cared who he offended. He gave an interview last year where he complained that political correctness in Hollywood was "killing comedy".

A far longer list would be solid leftists who DON'T speak out against SJWs but end up on their $hit list anyway because they DON'T virtue signal and refuse to apologize for jokes that "offend" women, blacks, hispanics, immigrants, muslims, gays, etc. My best example here is Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Orville, etc.). The guy is an outspoken hardcore socialist RAT (hates Bush, endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2016, Mayor Buttboy in 2020, donates thousands of dollars to the DNC, etc.). SJWs never-the-less loathe MacFarlane because he is a "cis-gendered male" who puts "shockingly insensitive" jokes in his TV shows poking fun at gay and transgender stereotypes, and won't apologize for it. Apparently they are outraged he spoke the truth that a straight guy would "probably throw up" if he found out that he slept with a chick who used to be a dude. He'll do the same making fun of Islamofacists, man-hating feminists, basically any and every group is open to mockery on MacFarlane's TV shows. MacFarlane is also sick of other leftists who don't practice what they preach and go around lecturing other people. I remember him blowing up how about Jon Stewart "promotes himself as the good guy" fighting for workers rights but behaved the opposite way and fired all his union workers who went on strike, or something like that.

A lot of leftists are just as sick of SJWs as the rest of us, its just that 90% of them are afraid to say anything.

The conservative equivalent might be Impy and I telling neo-confederates they are full of crap when they say stuff like the DemonRat Party was "the conservative party back then, and the Republicans were the liberals". Plenty of conservatives disagree with them but are afraid to tell the neo-confederates they are full of crap, but a handful of us have no such qualms. ;-)

Actually, (and I haven’t seen it mentioned yet) Gervais saved his best shot for last. He told the audience that they looked the other way while Harvey Weinstein was up to his crimes. Then he pointed at them and said, (paraphrasing) “Yeah, that was on you!” Then he walked off.

Do you think Salma Hyack’s are fake?

She must have been using boob tape if they’re real.

Definitely. If I were a guy, I’d rather look at natural boobs in old National Geographics than Selma’s phony water balloons.

Nothing is natural anymore.

Here's the quote: When closing out the show, Gervais circled back to Weinstein when introducing Sandra Bullock as the night's final presenter for best motion picture, drama. "Our next presenter starred in Netflix's Bird Box, a movie where people survive by acting like they don't see a thing," he said. "Sort of like working for Harvey Weinstein." When the crowd booed, he responded, "You did it. I didn't — you did it! Shut the f' up."

FWIW his show Afterlife was very good.

I watched After Life and it was good. Very, very dark though and while you at times feel sorry for his character as he’s so devastated and depressed over his wife’s death, it’s also hard to like him because he is such a p*** and does one thing in particular that was horrific (if you’ve watched, you’ll know what I mean).

The ending ended up being quite life affirming however, which was a surprise. It will be interesting where he goes with it in the 2nd season.

Did Gervais have to clear the monologue with the producers ahead of time?

If so, why was he allowed to do it?

Inquiring minds want to know.

What was the purpose for this dress down?

That is a very good question. To answer it it, it would be helpful to know what the producers knew and when they knew it.
