God only knows where Biden got the idea that coal mining consists of throwing the stuff into a furnace. Thats not how it works, but I digress. Bidens recommendation is stale stuff. Its the kind of rhetoric that will only sway voters whose ideal president is a machine that spits out a white paper from 1998 every time someone pushes a button. Re-training programs for workers in precarious industries have been with us for a long time.So has a specific fixation on the tech industry, as though its a cure-all for rural poverty.
But 1998 was a long time ago. Its evident now that re-training programs including the ones that teach miners and factory workers and whoever else to code are not the panacea that technocrats hoped theyd become. Despite decades of investments by the federal government in a patchwork of job-retraining efforts, most have been found to be ineffective according to numerous studies over the years, and it remains unclear to experts whether the programs are even up to the task of preparing workers for the new economy,Jeffrey Selingo recently wrote for The Atlantic. Privately-run efforts arent always effective, either. As the New York Times reported earlier this year, students sued the founders of Mined Minds, a non-profit that promised paid apprenticeships every graduate of its coding program, for fraud. The jobs did not appear;most students didnt even complete the program.
Theyre coming here promising stuff that they dont deliver, the husband of a former student told the Times. People do that all the time. Theyve always done it to Appalachians.
Some day, the mines will close, and mining communities will need new jobs and radical policy solutions if theyre going to survive. But Biden and his fellow technocrats fail to grasp a foundational fact about coal

I understand that Hunter is having money problems. Maybe he should learn to code. I’m just sayin’
This clown had NEVER worked an honest day in his life. He’s been a political hack and he’s been getting rich off the taxpayers for fifty years.
Yes, and telling blogger / journOlists to learn to code when they lose their jobs is considered hate speech.
“Learn to code...”
I don’t need all that much help, really. I wrote the web shortly after AlGore invented the internet. It’s mostly just maintenance work now.
As a programmer, my advice to the miners is: first, look at the rich guy, who doesn’t know how to code, telling you to learn code. Then, realize that you KNOW you could do HIS job.
Forget coding, Learn to Campaign!
Another advantage for former miners, if running as Democrats, is that a history of appearing in black face seems to be valued experience these days.
Seems like the message for folks in coal country should be the same as is often given to Blacks in the ghettos and Hispanics in the barrios, get an education and move to someplace that is more prosperous and hiring.
Hey Joe, learn to read and start with the Constitution.
Biden will not baffle this nation with his BS.
Biden’s such a jerk.
The groups that promised to teach people to code were fake.

You get kicked off Twitter for telling reporters what Biden told coal miners ... who are poorer, less educated and officially lower class.
And Big Tech censors people who tell laid off reporters to “learn to code”.
Hey, kids. Come in here and help Uncle Joe warm up his keyboard.
2. Journalists should learn to code
Given equal training and time, Ill bet the coal miners would come out on top in computer programming over journalists. Easily, too. Of course, the journalists would then sue because the tests were biased.
Hey, Joe,
Learn to keep your hands off of little girls.
Learn how to break rocks in Leavenworth you piece of shit

Some years ago I visited a data center in West Virginia to try and understand how they were recording data in their mainframe and how we could improve the results. These were medical records put into a database. I was trying to use the "data dumps" from the mainframe to convert it to useful information for a corporation's medical plan/preferred provider network.
Virtually every employee was an unkempt overweight woman who did not appear to be "well educated"--trying to be nice about it.
The data I had to work with was so full of "garbage"/wrong information that it could not be improved, reinforcing the old axiom, "garbage in, garbage out."
Senile old attention whore, getting worse.
Please Please Please, someone put him in a Home before he hurts himself.
