I HOPE THIS WILL PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART. This is a tribute to a man who DID make a difference.

ON TURNING 70 'I still chase women, but only downhill.'

ON TURNING 80 'That's the time of your life when even your birthday suit needs pressing.'

ON TURNING 90 'You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake.'

ON TURNING 100 'I don't feel old. In fact, I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap.'

ON GIVING UP HIS EARLY CAREER, BOXING 'I ruined my hands in the ring. The referee kept stepping on them.'

ON NEVER WINNING AN OSCAR 'Welcome to the Academy Awards, or as it's called at my home, 'Passover.'

ON GOLF 'Golf is my profession. Show business is just to pay the green fees.'

ON PRESIDENTS 'I have performed for 12 presidents but entertained only six.'

ON WHY HE CHOSE SHOWBIZ FOR HIS CAREER 'When I was born, the doctor said to my mother, Congratulations, you have an eight pound ham.'

ON RECEIVING THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL 'I feel very humble, but I think I have the strength of character to fight it.'

ON HIS FAMILY'S EARLY POVERTY 'Four of us slept in the one bed. When it got cold, mother threw on another brother.'

ON HIS SIX BROTHERS 'That's how I learned to dance. Waiting for the bathroom.'

ON HIS EARLY FAILURES 'I would not have had anything to eat if it wasn't for the stuff the audience threw at me.'

ON GOING TO HEAVEN 'I've done benefits for ALL religions. I'd hate to blow the hereafter on a technicality.'

Bob and his wife Dolores came to entertain at our base in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.

They were amazing and wonderful.

I took tap lessons in the late 50's, early 60's in part because of the wonderful music tap dancers made on the silver screen ..... I was pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Yeah, where did the rumor start that if you like Broadway show tunes, you’re gay?

Nothing gay in “South Pacific”:

“There is nothing like a dame, nothing in the world;
“There is nothing you can name, that is anything like a dame!”

Then the faggies took over, and Mel Brook’s “The Producers”, where the sole fag gets strangled by Zero Mostel, is hijacked in the recent production which rubs faggotry in the audience’s face.

My wife says the only movies I really like are those filmed in black & white. There’s a reason.

Look at how ”comedy” has changed...nothing today but a string of cuss words and dirty jokes. It takes genius to come up with anything similar to Hope’s humor...and there us no genius in comedy today,

Destroyed by the liberal zeitgeist. There is no creativity left, nothing but remaking the past to cultural marxist specifications.

Mr. GG2 is from Sunland Hills near LA. He used to work for his Dad’s contracting company. They did a lot of work at Bob Hope’s house. Mr. GG2 said Hope was friendly but always in a rush. Dolores was a wonderful person always giving them stuff to eat and drink.

He also knew Linda Gray from Dynasty. She took him for a ride in her new mustang one day.

I never met Mr. Hope. However, as a kid in the 1970s I wrote to him to request an autograph and he graciously complied. His signature was readable but very elaborate and idiosyncratic. Other celebrities who obliged requests for autographs included Bing Crosby, Jackie Gleason, Groucho Marx and a young Steve Martin, who sent a hilarious and very clever mock form letter in which he filled in numerous blank spaces by hand and promised he would never lose touch with his audience.

Also, years earlier my father was on the same plane as Bob Hope. He did not speak with him but as my Dad exited the plane (after Mr. Hope has already deplaned), he snagged a little card from Mr. Hope’s seat that said “Reserved for Bob Hope.” Unfortunately, I think the card is lost.

He also knew Linda Gray from Dynasty.

Trivia bit: You know the famous poster from "The Graduate" starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft? Where Hoffman is standing in the background while a very sexy leg in the foreground is peeling off a nylon stocking? Most people believe the leg was Anne Bancrofts, but in fact, it was Linda Gray's. Apparently Anne's weren't shapely enough.

I met a gay guy at the beach several years ago and that’s what he did, he sang show tunes.

I have looked for a link to a website with that story but can’t find one. I DO remember it happening. Called my mom and she vaguely remembers it as well.
Contrary to popular belief, not EVERYTHING is on the internet.

There was an article out some years ago written by the wife of a Vietnam vet.
Seems he had some bad experiences during his part of the war and didn’t speak of it much. One of his best memories of the war was when Ann Margaret came to entertain the troops and he not only got to be in the audience but got a group photo of his squad with the Sexy Swede Ann Margaret.
Many years after the war Margaret was in this vets town on a book signing tour. The wife had bought the book for her husband and prodded him to get it signed.
When they arrived there were signs that Miss Margaret would ONLY be signing books. Photographs, posters and magazines would not be signed.
When the vets turn came his wife presented the book to be signed. Her husband, wanting Ann to know he appreciated her show in Vietnam pulled the old picture out to show her.
Security jumped in to hustle the guy out but Ann got a glimpse of the picture and stopped them. She told everyone in earshot that man was one of HER soldiers and she ALWAYS had time for HER soldiers.
Ann pulled the man to her side of the table, sat him down and chatted with him for quite a while. She finally signed both his book and his photo, gave him an affectionate hug and kiss and they parted company.
No one in line complained.

Such class.

So many of those actresses were good.

They where in harms way when they went over there to entertain the troops.

Everything he did was enjoyable, but The Lemon Drop Kid was special. A great movie.

We really miss him.
