Brother of UPS driver taken hostage and killed during shootout with cops reveals he was covering another employee's route - as FBI identifies diamond thieves who also died in the standoff

The UPS driver who was killed in a hostage situation and shootout was covering another driver's route when he died, his brother has said.

Driver Frank Ordonez, a 27-year-old father of two young girls, died in the mayhem along with innocent motorist Richard Cutshaw, a 70-year-old union representative who was two years away from retirement, and the two armed robbers who opened fire on cops.

Lamar Alexander, 41, and Ronnie Jerome Hill, 41, both of Miami-Dade County, were identified by the FBI as the perpetrators of Thursday's armed jewelry store robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and shootout with cops that left both criminals and two others dead.

Records show that both men have extensive felony criminal records, and that Alexander had just been released from prison on an armed robbery conviction.

Ordonez was on his first day of work as a UPS driver when the fatal carnage unfolded, and his brother told CNN that he was covering the route of a driver who had called out sick that day, a common first assignment for rookie UPS drivers.

When your time is up..your time is up.

Sad situation.

Brother blaming cops in his angry gofundme page. I get it.

But the cops had to take these guys out for public safety.

Maybe, but I'd like to hear more details. Whose gun was responsible for the civilian drivers death? And whose gun was responsible for the UPS drivers death? If it was the cops, then there is an argument that maybe taking out 'these guys' should have been handled differently?

Odds on the police didn’t know that the UPS driver was even in the truck. From the video, you couldn’t see and that truck was riddled with bullets.

If the jewelry store didn’t have expensive products, none of this would have happened, let’s blame the Jewelry Store Owner instead ok?

The cops probably all emptied 3 or 4 magazines into the truck.

You’re very accommodating. Good citizenship. The brother should take your lesson.

“Records show that both men have extensive felony criminal records, and that Alexander had just been released from prison on an armed robbery conviction.”

I’d like to see the family go after whoever let career criminals out to kill their relative. The police aren’t in charge of the revolving door.

Did the cops have to let the van get into heavy traffic? I don’t know how long the chase took, or if there was any way to get ahead of it.

I don’t know if the cops were taking cover behind a private vehicle moving next to the UPS van, or if that was an unmarked police car.

It’s too early to blame anyone but the robbers, but there are real questions here, about police procedures.

And the woman in the jewelry store. Whose bullet hit her, robber’s, or owner’s?

Did you watch the video?

The cops were taking cover behind civilian vehicles. THAT HAD PEOPLE IN THEM! And shooting into another vehicle with a hostage inside, killing him and killing a motorist stranded in the line of fire. Over jewelry.

What a sh*t show.

To be fair, if it had been my husband I would probably being suing anyone and everyone involved to get answers.

But those cops could not let those perps go.

Surprised the Black Activists aren’t screaming that cops should have done more to arrest them peacefully.

I only saw a brief clip.

I don’t think police procedure requires them to be IN FRONT of the civilian vehicle with no cover as shots are being fired at them. I am sure we will find out.

What part of my opinion is reprehensible.

If my husband was an innocent driver caught in a hostage situation, I would use the mighty power of my legal family members to get down to what happened.

But since it isn’t my family memember I can be a bit more objective.

There is NO WAY those cops could let those perps go.

It is now up to investigators to see what should and could have been done differently.
